An average Ron Howard film, so stay away from it.

Nicole Kidman's face never changes throughout the entire movie.

when i lived in new orleans in the early 90's i would go to movies with my friend nancy. we alternated who got to pick the film. nancy chose this one. but i think fondly of new orleans and going to movies with a friend, so i gave it a 1 instead of a 0.

Almost every Tom Cruise movie from 1985-1992 has an IDENTICAL plot: Brash young man with uncommon talent (insert cool profession here) romances a woman out of his league. I recommend viewing in this descending order of watchabilty: Born on the Fourth of July (soldier), Top Gun (fighter pilot), The Color of Money (pool hustler), Far and Away (settler), Days of Thunder (race car driver), Legend (warrior), Cocktail (bartender)...

It's quite alright, quite enjoyable watch.

Pure tongue in cheek entertainment about the Irish American pioneer experience. Cliche but loveable, and Cruise and Kidman shine at a moment when they seemed in love and in psynch. Endearing and funny/heartwarming. Good times.

Surprisingly good. Tom and Nicole are fine, and the lavish period detail helps a great deal. Probably helps a lot if you see it on the big screen like I did

Though I could just stare at Kidman, the rest of the movie interrupts.

Ron Howard does a fair job of directing Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman. Movie drags in places, and feels rather disjointed at times, but it entertains, so mission accomplished.

Under-appreciated with engaging humor, epic sweep, and tender romance. Tom Cruise isn't as terrible as he usually is, and Kidman's talent is evident.

Cliche and unlikely story of two people falling for each other under dire circumstances in the turn of the century. The set and costumes are fantastic but what you are seeing is the usual Tom Cruise vanity trailer but this time with Nicole Kidman.

Far and Away, a mildly old-fashioned romantic melodrama that has as many charming moments as embarrassing ones. Much of the charm is supplied by the earnest performances of Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

Easily one of my favorites. It has all. action, romance, chemistry between leads, banter, beautiful scenery, horse races, Nicole is i believe at her peak in looks (STUNNING!), music is phenomenal (i still listen to this soundtrack all the time), Enya song at the end of the movie is something of romantic/optimistic/dreamy perfection, and direction from Ron Howard is just flawless (juts compare this movie to shit called Da Vinci Code).

I like this movie though with all Tom Cruise movies, I had to rewatch to remember which one of his it was.

I actually didn't think it was as bad as many make it out to be...too much Tom and Nicole, but not completely useless.

Truly an entertaining saga.

I saw this yesterday and I've already forgotten what happened.

The last Nicole Kidman movie I saw before I called a moratorium on Nicole Kidman movies. Melodrama with good eye candy, but about as predictable as you would expect.

Set at the turn of the 19th century, woman from an upper class family escapes to America along with a young displaced farmer. Lured by the prospect of free land, they eventually find their way to the Oklahoma land rush. The love story between them is never fleshed out until the final scenes. Great cast, and good performances. An entertaining epic adventure. Nicole Kidman is young and beautiful in this. Even Tom Cruise puts on am acceptable performance. Great story and script, and fun to watch.

Yes it's middling Ron Howard, therefore problematic and extremely bland, but there's entertainment value in the big production effort, Cruise's naivete and Williams' beautiful and feely irish scoring.

this movie is a chick flick disguised as an irish-american history lesson. accents are weak... dont waste your time

Stunningly photographed by Mikael Salomon, the film is merely average in the story, acting, and music departments. The film's vaunted 1893 Oklahoma land rush is historically inaccurate; it actually occurred in 1889. Moral: Good intentions and sweet sentiments do not make a great movie.

Early Cruise-Kidman charmer of grand proportions, with Tom Cruise's silly Irish accent being the only recallable dampener.
