Fantastic priests and how to find them.

I'll never say it's an amazing flick, but it's good. The best part is the performances. Wahlberg is at the top of his game here as he plays a complex and difficult character really well. Not my favourite role of his, but it might be his best performance. Really liked Gibson. Has a pretty good script, with some solid emotional beats and humour that works. Enjoyable dialogue. It takes a dip once the religious stuff starts, like it takes a while to find its footing there, but it does eventually.

Marky Mark loves playing a heroic character, but honestly I was not disappointed by this based on a true story movie. I liked the angle they took as it really is just from the main character's perspective.

The storytelling here doesn’t stand out much, with a mediocre directing job and some underwhelming performances. The material is just great from Long’s story, his faith and character, and a sharp script that could have stopped you in your tracks with a better team.

Standard blockbuster drama material, though for a film aimed at America's Bible belt, it feels notably atheistic -- there's a few aphorisms thrown around, but no real spiritual feeling. Instead it's all about the main character (who is essentially Wahlberg himself) going through life's ups and downs in a very flat manner.

Great performances in this true story drama.

"Father Stu" is a pleasant enough watch with an inspiring story and an important message. While the screenplay could use some work, Mark Wahlberg's charisma and the film's honest portrayal of the Catholic Church make it worth a watch.
