Father's Day

Once you've taken a long, hard look at the Kaufman family's obsession with severed penises, you will realize it extends beyond mere voyeurism--it is rooted in something deeper: a firm belief in standing tall in the face of censorship. In a veritable stroke of genius, the Kaufmans have erected something big here--bigger than any of us could have imagined, and for that, we should all raise our weary heads and salute them.

Doesn't quite replicate the nostalgic greatness of classic Troma but it accomplishes what it sets out to do, which is to shock and entertain. I guess I can cross male rape off the list of things I can't unsee.

The end goes on a bit long, but there's clearly passion behind the camera.

In 1980, Charles Kaufman directed a chilling little indie horror film called Mother's Day. 31 years later, his brother Lloyd's Troma production company releases Father's Day, which I kind of hoped would follow in Charles' footsteps. Nope. It's fairly typical Troma; you've no idea what's going on and you don't really give a shit. Kinky incest here, unwatchable penis gore there, a devil-may-care attitude to filmmaking everywhere else, not even funny. Father's Day is an insult to its namesake.

Great tribute to those old schlock films full of cheese and violence and humor.. Astron 6 know how to make more than just a trip down memory lane though and add their own fresh flair to it
