An ex-boxer runs a talent agency contracting strippers for local New York clubs, but his girls are getting carved up by a psychopath with crazy martial arts skills. Ferrara is great at capturing the scuzzy feel of the streets of New York, and the final fight in an alleyway is surprisingly effective. Tons of nudity, too: if you've ever wanted to see Melanie Griffith shaking her ass wearing nothing but a G-string, this is your movie.

A love letter to New York like only New Yorkers can deliver because they must secretly hate New York just like the rest of us. Tom Berenger is only half of the leading duo and Billy Dee isn't the other half like he was in Nighthawks. I'm loving catching up with his non Lando roles though. Excellent actor. I can't and won't try to sum this up any better than law did in their review.

Everything you want in a dirty, sleazy thriller set in New York, made in the 80's and directed by Abel Ferrara. It doesn't quite reach the heights of similar films like Maniac and The New York Ripper but it's raw and the definition of sleaze. Melanie Griffith is absolutely smokin' in this one!

Gem. Super bizarre and with lots of style and a cool cast. A little too long.

A guilty pleasure. Sleazy, blunt, with a lot of silly dialogue, but well-paced and quite exciting thanks to Ferrara's fine directing. It is hard to decide if it is a generic 1980s action movie featuring a battle of good and evil with a side of romance, or something a bit different. Other themes sip in when crime lords falsely suspect each other of the killings, with the characterization of the police, and with regard to women's social position. It is all crudely drawn, but adds color.

Literally found a VHS tape of this movie on the side of the road last week & decided to give it a watch. So bad it's good! Billy Dee chews up the scenery as a bad-mutha cop. Lots of T&A and mafia stereotypes. Cool 80s soundtrack I've never heard before. Don't expect the Oscars here, but great character actors surrounding a brooding Tom Berenger. Jesus, smile for once Tom!

Abel Ferrara has a talent for showing scum on the the screen. He gets 80s NYC right with all of its dirt and grime. Unfortunately, I think much of his effort is put into this (and making sure we see enough boobs) at the detriment to his characters. Unlike Ms. 45, I have no idea what makes Tom Berenger's character tick. In fact, I don't really know anything about any of the characters.

It's of many genres (comedy, noir, crime, slasher) but never succeeds with any of them. The story is so tame and the characters are very stock, once the film is over, you feel like you've not really seen anything (except for perhaps the most '80s American movie ever).

Not quite as good as the upper echelon of these movies (ie Maniac), but it's still great.

By far, the most preposterous climax Ferrara has ever filmed; the epitome of cheese. Berenger is about as magnetic as a stale cracker, the villain is as goofy as anything, and the narrative is among the most unfocused of St. John's. Definitely one of my least favourite Abe jams.

Serial killer flick from Abel Ferrara which takes place mainly in sleazy 42nd street and strip joints. It's got a nice vibe to it with the neon lights and 80's soundtrack filled with some unfamiliar tunes. The cast is also interesting: Berenger, Williams, Scalia and Griffith. The script contains some badass dialogue, but the story is very unfocused and jams too much stuff into 90mins; the killer's motivation remains a mystery for example and the syndicate sub-plot doesn't really add any value.
