Although I can understand how this was Li's last wuxia movie, the movie would have been a lot better without the last 15 seconds.

Excellent fight choreography, and Li certainly has an impressive screen presence that makes him a pleasure to watch, but the story is not all that compelling.

I saw the original asian director's cut, not the American theatrical or "uncut" DVD versions. I can honestly say this isn't Jet Li's best film however, as a Jet Li fan, I can say I'm perfectly happy with him ending his martial arts movie career with it. It's got some amazing fight scenes and cinematography. The story is hokey in parts but overall it's fun and uplifting. Worth seeing for sure.

Another in a line of many lush, highly-produced, glossily-shot, little-adherence-to-physics kung fu epics this decade. Like most of the rest of those, it's more than watchable.

Enjoyable, for sure, but it really doesn't have much other than the fight scenes. Perhaps the few times when Jet Li is a father, he and his daughter have a wonderful chemistry. I fear that it is also some sort of a Confuscious or Taoist propaganda film due to the large amount of references to the Wushu religion. Still, decent film nonetheless. Jet Li, you might be 40, but we couldn't tell. You will be missed

This is a decent, very well executed story... only problem is its remarkably uninteresting. There's ONE good fight in the movie imo (when he fights Chin) and the rest is basically build up for the last fight... which isn't even that good anyway. I was in the mood for the best Jet Li martial arts movie yet, and was disappointed. All in all, not a BAD movie, but don't go in with high hopes.

While I think Hero would have been a better movie for Jet Li to leave the wuxia genre with, Fearless isn't by any means bad. It's nice to have a reason behind the fighting for a change, and not sticking with the tired old "revenge" shtick that many of these movies follow. jet is as always amazing in this film, and if for nothing else, you must watch this for the resteraunt fight. Wow!

The fight scenes were decent, but lacked meaning. The movie was horribly anti-climactic. This probably won't change your opinion of Ronny Yu's directing abilities (if they're negative). Jet Li probably should have made Hero his last martial arts epic.

While a fairly interesting story, there was far too much wire fighting absurdity for something ment to be historically significant. Some of the weapon scenes where somewhat intresting, and certainly entertaining, they lacked the taste of actual combat to a significant degree. All of this would have been welcome in a fantasy backdrop, but it had no place in even a whimsical retelling of historical events.

Beautifully photographed, and ultimately touching, Fearless may not be Li's very best, but it's still a rewarding martial arts biopic that should have his fans eagerly lined up for multiple viewings. If this is truly Li's final martial arts film, he picked a fine one to end his incredible career with.

Plot is just a connect the dots of an encyclopedia entry on Huo Yuanjia. While I don't necessarily think they should take liberties for the sake of Hollywood watchability, it's all way to quick for any plot point to weigh very much

To think that the same Ronny Yu who directed the dreadful crimes against humanity titled "Bride of Chucky" and "Freddy vs Jason" also helmed Fearless, it's quite astounding. By no means a perfect film - the ending feels like a draft and the wire-fu was unnecessary - it's an interesting story of a real man, and it's adequately acted. Don't expect another Li performance like in Hero, but he's believable.

The beginning of this film hits rock bottom (a present-day framing device? a flashback in a flashback? children establishing character?), but luckily, there's nowhere to go but up. While still suffering from an over-reliance on wire-fu, slo-mo and fast edits, the film's drama picks up steam, becoming both engaging and somewhere close to touching. That the ending invites comparisons to Game of Death is high praise, indeed.

"The protagonist's message rings true and its battle sequences prove gripping, but Jet Li's Fearless is both slightly ham-fisted in its efforts to have its individual and political narratives mirror one another." - Nick Schager

I like my martial arts movies wire and CGI free, so even though there are some decent fights here, I'm a little bit biased. Nothing I haven't seen before and Li was already past his prime at this point. The last 20 or so minutes (excluding the ridiculous mood-killing final scene) are quite engaging however and it's still worth a watch for fans of Li or martial arts in general.

Despite being somewhat tarnished by historical inaccuracies, Fearless is still an incredibly powerful movie about personal struggles, the struggles of a nation under pressure and the pride that comes with it. I can excuse the somewhat stiff acting when you get such strong scenes as you get here; especially the ending scene and village montage. Plus, it has some extremely well-choreographed fight scenes. But in such way that they are built around the story, and not as a tool for moving the plot.

Wushu master Huo Yuanjia (Jet Li) prepares to battle one Japanese opponent, Tanaka (Shidou Nakamura), and three American opponents in a massive tournament. The picture then cuts back to Huo's boyhood in 1880, when his father forbids him from engaging in martial-arts. Around 1900, Huo, then in his twenties, continues to fight in tournaments. His determination is such that his entire life begins to revolve around championships, and the prospect of becoming the top-ranked fighter in Tianjin.

Watched the overlong director's cut. The Michelle Yeoh bookends are garbage, but mercifully short, the rest is a decent rise-fall-rise again martial arts film. The fights are physics defying fun and the film's arc is enjoyable, though the lull in the middle is a bit tiring as is the overall patriotism
