Feeding the Doves

If you're going to feed doves for a movie, you could at least try to look enthusiastic. I know this shit must be painfully boring for you, because it was boring for me too, but you're not helping anyone with that attitude of yours.

Ladies, do it without the attitude or don't do it at all. I've never seen two women feeding birds looking so bored or pissed off.

A waste of good bread. Did the unnamed bourgeois woman and young girl think of the starving populace of the world when they decided they were going to dispose of perfectly edible goods? Haven't they ever seen Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali? No. No, I think not. Yet again, Edison exploits the underprivileged.

A few glaring editing and pacing issues prevent this avant-garde noir arthouse classic from becoming one of my favorite films, but the acting was so incredible that you'd be absolutely soulless to not have had your heartstrings tugged by this benchmark of cinema. In it's conclusion, we realize we are all the doves waiting to be fed. In Jesus' name, Amen.

This must be where Hitchcock got the idea for "The Birds" because the entire duration those birds looked pretty menacing.

I don't think I "get" this.

It's nice and all, and I can see why people would have liked it back then, but there isn't really anything enjoyable about it today.

This is really terrible, but at least the little girl is having fun.

What could be more exciting than actually feeding birds you ask? Why, watching choppy grainy footage of people half-assedly feeding birds of course!

This film was used by Edison to show off how well his camera could capture subtle movement, in this case the fluttering of the birds' wings. He pulled it off.
