As someone who is terminally online, I have been able to watch the many mutations of Pepe over the years. It has not been good, man. This actually really bummed me out. Even if there's an attempt at a redemption towards the end, watching the confluence of internet culture with politics over the past decade just reminds me how messy this all is. Even if Pepe is no longer the focus, the situation has not ended. Especially as QAnon theories get passed around as fact on my Facebook feed.

Watched this over the (2nd? 3rd? Final? idk) 2020 Presidential Debate and in the long run will probably be more informative. Captures the many manic truths of art truly running away from the artist, giving life to the phrase "A life of it's own"- when they bring in an occultist to explain collective memetic energies, you don't really question it. It's almost like if Hitler took a symbol of religious peace, inverted it, and put it on flags. But it's a frog. Can we ever invert it back?

I called it way back in 2017 when Pepe showed up in the Safdie Bros. film Good Time that his brief appearance was the beginning of the second light of Pepe, this meme that went far out of control. I realized how little I knew about the Hong Kong protests when those last 8 minutes began. With all that being said, this film is water-tight, self-aware, beautifully animated, and a wilder ride than it had any right to be.

I find the rise of the NEET/alt-right/normie-hating culture fascinating and deeply disturbing. This documentary does a good job at taking a small piece of this sub-group, Pepe the Frog, and tries to explain a very odd movement. It isn't revolutionary, but I think the topics covered are more important than most people realize.

Pepe stands for the disregarded and the mischievous. The smug Pepe has the impression of an outcast, a loser, but also someone with a deep wisdom about how life works. No wonder why it is so appealing to the NEET or the alt-right. Though, I was cringing when people were asking Matt if he feels responsible. For instance, swastika is an ancient Indian symbol. Now, are ancient Indians responsible for Nazism? It is precisely this attitude towards culture that feed the alt-right culture. Fun movie.

I like how the “good” that Pepe is doing is in a protest that ended up being supported by the same right wing ghouls that liked Pepe in the first place. Furie seems like a chiller. That rare Pepe guy should probably be institutionalized for his own good.

Despite Furie being very unaware of how the Internet and art works he seems like a cool hang. I had forgot about Richard Spencer wearing the Pepe pin when he got rocked and other hilarious shit like kekistan. Just the most embarrassing people. Liked the dude lifting in the wild jersey. Laughed at the Hong Kong “protestors” using Pepe.

2020 en iyi belgesellerinden biri. 1 kurbağa karikatürü neleri değiştiriyor? Yaratıcısı Matt Furie tarafından yapılan Kurbağa Pepe, önceleri masum gibi görünen yüzü, sonradan seçim kampanyasına dönüşüyor. İnternet trollerini mest eden Pepe, içinden çıkılmaz 1 mene dönüşüyor. Hızlı çekim tekniğiyle çekilen film, Matt Furie'nin başına 1 dert açmış. Adamın başına gelenler pişmiş kurbağanın başına gelmezdi. Filmin sonunda, telif kazanıldı. Pepe pepe çok üzülüyor.

very engaging and a neater description of 4chan culture than "TFW no gf". i feel like the narrative of how pepe was co-opted was too defined and therefore lacking, considering how fluid meme culture is. screw the crypto feature as well.

An intriguing delve into internet subcultures. While Matt Furie's story is a worthy subject; I found the reflections on the 4chan community and its denizen far more interesting and worthy of deeper exploration.
