Ferris Bueller. Larger than life. Blessed with a magical sense of serendipity. He's a model for all those who take themselves too seriously. A guy who knows the value of a day off. Ferris Bueller's Day Off chronicles the events in the day of a rather magical young man, Ferris (Broderick). One spring day, toward the end of his senior year, Ferris gives into an overwhelming urge to cut school and head for downtown Chicago with his girl (Sara) and his best friend (Ruck) (Paramount)

Pure 80s goodness, but still, it was hard to enjoy the antics of the protagonists because I could sympathize with the antagonists, a worn-out principal just trying to do his job and an older sister jealous of her brother's good luck, especially when her brother starts to get away with just about ANYTHING. But, as I said, still a good movie if you can see past that.

One of the best movie characters that I've seen. He's the kind of guy I would've hated had I known him. But you can't help wishing you were Ferris. You really feel for Cameron (Alan Ruck) after a while. But all in all this is an amazing movie, and fun every time.

I remember loving this as an 80s kid. Now, older and wiser and parental, I can't help but feel Ferris is a bit of a tool. Purists might want to hunt down the little-known sequel "Cameron gets beaten to death by his Dad".

Appallingly wrong-headed (and irresponsible) teen movie has at least a noble moral (stop and smell the roses, academic excellence is not everything in life) but squanders it on the story of a horrifically self-centered (and self serving) leech; does it ever occur to Ferris that he can only enjoy his day off due to nearly everyone around him taking responsibility for his actions? Ham-fisted and cartoonish portraits of the cloddish adults in his world only uncomfortably stack the deck further.

Shouldn't Rooney have given up the chase after *he* called Ferris' mom to confirm that Ferris was home sick? And why did Ferris go through the motions of pretending to be sick to his folks if it was news to his mom that this was his 9th absence? And wasn't Cameron legit sick?

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a movie I don't think anyone can dislike. Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, and Jeffrey Jones (along with Edie McClurg) are all extremely funny in this one. It's a timeless classic, and just thinking about it can make me laugh.

Television shows have probably referenced this movie more than any other movie. Especially the part where he has to run through backyards and people's houses to get home. It's a pretty nifty film.

A love letter to Chicago, and John Hughes' best. It perfectly captures the feeling of breaking the rules in order to have fun with friends as a teen. For all of Ferris' crazy escapades, there's also an undercurrent of melancholy in the film, not just in Cameron's character but in the fact that this is likely the last hurrah before joining the real world.

Probably Hughes' best movie. Very funny scenes mixed with some amazing genuine poignancy. The monologue Ferris gives about Cameron is brilliant, and it's great how this is really all about him. Aside from that, some of the stuff they get up to are just great - everyone remembers the "Twist and Shout" scene.

The ultimate in teen wish fulfillment, and a blast to watch. Left an impression that teen movies to this day can't seem to completely shake off, which stands as a testament to it's charm. Probably both Hughes' and Broderick's best

I relate to that main character a bit too much. No, not the title character himself, I'm talking about the self-deprecating (well, deprecating in general) Cameron Frye. "I'm just worried that's he gonna marry the first woman that gets him laid". Ugh! I'm glad I saw this movie at the right time of my life.

as far as 80s teen movies go, this did not live up to its hype. i found myself hating ferris and his fake charm and ended up siding with the antagonists because i never felt like ferris had any real conflict to overcome - everything worked out too easily for him and he didn't learn anything or change in any way, so he wasn't relatable. just really annoying. every character in this film was a flat stock character with only a few defining features and ferris was definitely no exception.

Gads. *Much* worse than I remember it being when I saw it when I was a kid. It's apt that Ferris alludes to James Bond at one point; just as in the Bond pictures, the bullshit piles very high very fast. High school is boring and useless, college and adulthood are faraway places that warrant very little thought, all adults are boobs, and Ferris talks about how special his relationship with his best friend Cameron is when, half the movie, he treats Cameron like his bitch. Et cetera, et cetera

Fun film, though ultimately rather devoid of meaning except for the lesson that Cameron learns at the end. That's not to say it isn't worth the time. Ferris stresses enjoying the time you have and the movie can fill that need.

One of the best, most well-written comedies of the 80s. There's not a whole lot to it, but it's tons of fun and Matthew Broderick completely owns the title role. I can't say much is wrong with this movie except that it's maybe a little episodic. Otherwise, this is great.

I must have watched this 50 times when I was an adolescent. Even then I found Ferris to be a bit of a self-entitled prick, and was annoyed by the apparent assumption that the audience will empathize with three wealthy kids who do nothing but take their superior social position for granted. Well, that was the 80s, I guess. This is still one of my favourite comedies of the time.

I really liked this movie back in '86 as a kid. As the years go by, I realize what a user Ferris is, & I hate it more every year. Ferris is one of those guys who manage to skate thru life without really having to face any true consequences because people continue to enable him & thus doesn't really learn any life lessons until tragedy strikes. It's like watching the prodigal son. His friend Cameron & his sister Jeanie are more interesting. Ferris could have easily done this all on a Saturday.

Between Ferris' charming 4th-wall breaks (right down to his sly one-second looks), his outrageously serendipitous class-cutting escapades (makes himself the star of the downtown parade) and delightful deceits (his bedside baby talk to his parents is a riot), and a hilarious slapstick side plot with the crazy principal, there's ample humour here, set to fresh, quirky and quick-cutting scenes. Ruck's sympathetic Cameron, meanwhile, adds some touching character development to the great comedy.

Maybe I wasn't in the right mood to watch it... but I have never had a so genuine will to punch someone in the face as Ferris Bueller. I can still feel it. A young man so irritating I hoped he would be kicked in the ass in the end. That would be a decent final. He should be arrested, suspended from school and interdicted to any public space. He should say "I am sorry, I've caused trouble to everyone because I am an irresponsible idiot who cares only for himself." Oh god, I hate this movie.

I often found broderick somewhat uncharismatic, and ruck's character is the infinitely more interesting one. Still the movie makes many fair points on the flaws in our educational system, values and priorities, and is good natured fun altogether. Charlie sheen gives a flawless impression of himself in 30 years, and mia sara is the definition of beauty.

Morally corrupt and dumb. I'm shocked by the sympathy that some may have for Ferris Bueller who is just an upper middle class selfish bastard who uses everybody around him and tries to redeem himself in the most conceited ways. Portraying his nemesis as an idiot doesn't make me empathize with Ferris.
