Had its moments. Ivan Mosjoukine is incredibly magnetic in the lead, adding gravitas and empathy to material that skews heavy on its melodrama. There is potential for greatness here: the ending could have been more emotionally satisfying, and the parallels between lives could have been more deftly handled. Overall, it satisfies.
