I have a soft spot for comedy spoofs, but this is stuffed full of cheesy raunchy stupid dialog, seemingly written by a prepubescent teenager or perhaps just a brain-dead burned-out writer. The idiotic antics were at best awkward but mostly just not funny. Once you are overloaded with stupidity, which occurs quickly, you continue watching just to see if even one joke will actually resonate. Unfortunately, the quest to find something funny in this movie is very poorly rewarded.

I'll make this conclusion simple by turning it into a plea: Please, please don't see this movie. Promise me. As a friend. Rarely--maybe never--have I seen such a particularly potent concoction of salacious content and stupid storytelling. (And I reviewed Fifty Shades of Grey.) To truly describe this movie, one must invent new words that mean "ridiculously foul," only worse. Something like radiridifo. Say it 50 times in a row, and it still won't be enough. (pluggedin.com)

Not insightful, not funny, and simply another example of a spoof movie done wrong, Fifty Shades of Black is a film that, more than anything else, feels unnecessary. Its lack of jokes and overall quality aside, it feels surprisingly dated and irrelevant - as if the internet has replaced the need for spoof movies in the first place. We're exposed to people making fun of these things in real time; a year after the fact and we've all moved on.

There's one kinda funny part where a sassy black woman is taken to the red room and is all "...and what do you think is happening in here" and I wasted my evening, thank you.

Difficult to decide which of Fifty Shades of Grey (2015) or Fifty Shades of Black (2016) is more cringe-worthy. But since Marlon Wayans' creation doesn't take itself as religiously serious as the real brand, it automatically is the the lesser evil.

It's no Don't Be a Menace but still much preferred to one of Freidberg/Seltzer's abortions. Another black movie that doesn't belong in the imdb bottom 100.
