It's a rare person who would give up fame and fortune to toil in obscurity for someone else's creative vision. Yet, that's exactly what Leon Vitali did after his acclaimed performance as 'Lord Bullingdon' in Stanley Kubrick's Barry Lyndon. The young actor surrendered his thriving career to become Kubrick's loyal right-hand man. For more than two decades, Leon, a self-proclaimed 'Filmworker', played a crucial role behind-the-scenes helping Kubrick make and maintain his legendary body of work. (imdb)

Behind every Kubrick there's a Leon Vitali keeping the cameras greased and the lights oiled. The archive footage becomes a series of fun Vitali reveals - there's Stanley on the set of Full Metal Jacket and boom there's Leon with a clipboard behind him, there's Stanley walking down a hallway and boom Leon appears around the corner, there's Stanley talking to Jack Nicholson and if you zoom in close then boom there's Leon in the picture on the wall from 1921. He was always the caretaker!

A nice look at an unsung helper to Kubrick who now takes on a monumental task of upkeeping someone else's legacy. I wish there weren't so many spoilers for films I haven't watched yet. Fav scene: talking about peeing off the balcony.

Enjoyable documentary depends on your interest in Kubrick for its effect; Zierra does an effective job of depicting the nature of the strange relationship between Vitali and the director, but outside of the "cultist" argument, it would have been interesting to hear from Vitali as to why he chose to subsume himself into Kubrick's life; this leaves a significant void at the heart of the film. Always nice to see Ermey, Modine et al reminiscing about Kubrick's strange movie sets!
