I really like what they did with this! Finding Dory may not live up to Finding Nemo, but it proves very well that it has a story that needed to be told. All of the characters are really fun. I loved them (especially the sea lions)! The title character is actually developed really well too! It's colorful and beautiful and hilarious and well-written and emotionally engaging. What more could you want? Very strong sequel from Pixar and for sure worth watching.

Overall, Finding Dory is a wonderful little adventure, that will forever live in the shadow of Nemo. While Pixar delivers a gutpunch to the feels again, it doesn't feel as universally heavy as Finding Nemo. The new characters are amazing, but the plot feels kind of rehashed and forced at parts, very reminiscent of The Force Awakens. However, that being said, it's a very fun time, with a great voice cast, and an entertaining premise.

It can't stand alone from (or capture the pure success of) Finding Nemo, but it's still a wonderful and fun adventure. The climactic moment set to What A Wonderful World is totally joyous.

Finding Dory is a worthy sequel with a story that needed to be told. It's by no means a criticism to say nothing about this sequel surpasses the quality of Finding Nemo. However this remains a justifiable and a thoroughly enjoyable sequel. Pixar don't cover any new ground but they once again explore themes that all ages can relate to and the subject of family is perfectly developed around Dory. The old and new characters are well balanced and the animation and voice work is stellar throughout.

About 10% of the movie is HEY REMEMBER FINDING NEMO? Those parts are mediocre. Once it gets past that, the movie is cute and memorable with the new material.

In some ways, Finding Dory feels like Pixar's most contemporary film. This is most specifically (and admirably) in regards to its sympathetic look into mental disabilities, which is handled here in ways that are both thoughtful and heartbreaking. The opening scene with baby Dory and her parents, which plays out almost like a Pixar masterclass in writing. The deftness of humor and heartache here is at the studio's best. You laugh and you cry, sometimes at the same time.

A very nice Pixar movie. The animation was absolutely beautiful and the story was a decent successor to Finding Nemo with a lot of great moments. Was is the best Pixar movie ever, probably not, but still probably the best animated movie of the year and a great movie.

Pixar once again markets a movie heavily with nostalgia and once again makes it surprisingly engaging. I didn't have very high expectations for Finding Dory (at least by Pixar standards), yet it completely blew me away. The breathtaking animation was immersive and absolutely gorgeous, and the voice acting added a lot of dimension to the various new characters -- even those that didn't have as much development. I wish it had more of an antagonist, but this was still one heck of a fun ride.

Imagine not playing Elmer Fudd's idiocy for laughs, but asking you to view him as a sympathetic figure with his chronic gullibility as a symptom of an intellectual disability - it's what happens here w/ Dory. It kills any laughs to be had at Dory's forgetfulness (which provided some of the biggest laughs in the first film), and then even the film's other jokes fall repeatedly flat. Still, Pixar remain masters at crafting action - always raising the stakes & coming up with creative escapes.

Educational. Learned lots of stuff in this one, foremost of which was that if Al Bundy were a sea creature, he'd be a seven-legged octopus. That psychotic seal with the eyebrows that doesn't talk needs to be Disney/Pixar's version of that insufferable Scrat character from the ICE AGE movies. Nobody in my family cried at this, which is getting to be a rarer and rarer thing with frigging Pixar.

Holy crap. As a person who has pretty big memory problems and who also screws up on a regular basis, this movie was intense and relatable. This is a narrative I've never actually seen on the big or small screens before, and it's told in the classic Pixar way, with the lighthearted fun parts and the dramatic emotions supporting and enhancing one another. Also, it looks *great*. Even the parts in dingy gross water are lovely to look at, achieving perspectives impossible in live action.

Dory's determination to return home, then, becomes a series of teachable moments about loss, parental nurturing, friendship, dealing with handicaps and loving others. And even if kid viewers don't reel in the full message, they'll certainly feel the parts that most directly align with their own lives. (pluggedin.com)

Nicely animated with a good little story that jumps off nicely from the original. Pixar as per usual get the voice talent choices spot on and the new characters are all fun additions. It never hits the heights of Pixar at their best and overstretches itself considerably in the last act however.

'Finding Dory' is a success in the sense that it avoids tarnishing 'Nemo's' legacy while being a fun and emotional adventure in its own right. However, despite how beautiful it looks, and the fun new cast of characters, 'Dory' is another Pixar sequel that fails to justify its existence from an artistic POV.

This is a movie about personal limitations. Dory is a deeply flawed creature, yet her sheer will to overcome her memory issues ultimately propels her to achieve a series of formidable tasks. Her homecoming echoes the seafaring tale of Odysseus battling the one-eyed cyclops, seeking the guidance of others, and rediscovering her past. Half the movie may be silly and frivolous callbacks to "Finding Nemo", but it eventually satisfies all ages with a serious and introspective narrative about grit.

Pixar's current affliction of sequelitis is still concerning, but at least this one tries to improve upon the original's gorgeous aesthetic while traversing new territory. Sort of. It's still a fish stuck in a human facility story, but now that's the entire story, which works. In fact, they throw a cheeky curveball at the beginning to make you think it's a rehash of Nemo, and then the location never changes. Still funny and well developed -- this should be good enough for Pixar fans.

Speaking as a completely adult male, Pixar should be arrested for a) making the cutest thing ever (baby Dory) and b) making it all so tragic until the end. Seriously, while this doesn't have that many laughs, outside of the Sea Lions who are awesome, it's so emotionally engaging that I almost wasn't equipped to handle it. Though the parts are minimal, the scenes with baby Dory are a big reason for that as it explores the sadness of losing your parents while uncorking the most adorable sentences.

"Finding Dory" is definitely not graced with the perfection of "Finding Nemo" but remains a wonderful film. The beginning does feel a little like a quickly put together rehash of Dory's shtick but the film rises way above your average money-making sequel. The stunning animation, excellent voice work and surprising humanity, along with the humour, action, suspense and emotion we've come to know and expect from Pixar are all present right until the exquisite finale. It's flawed yet very rewarding.

The ocean contains plenty of fish stories, and FINDING DORY is one worthy of Pixar's attention. It doesn't reach the blissful heights of the original, but it may have a deeper and more affecting message--everyone has strengths and weaknesses, and our happiness depends on which ones we allow to shape our identities. A beautiful film, inside and out.

Dory (Ellen DeGeneres) sets out to find her family, a quest impeded by her short-term memory loss, and by the threatening nature of the aquarium where she seeks them. Fairly simple on the surface, this ends up yet another winner from Pixar; it may not have the universal resonance of their best work, but it's an amusing and truly heart-warming adventure for viewers of all ages, bolstered by fine voicework and the expected gorgeous animation. For Dory-skeptics like myself, it's a real treat.

I wouldn't say it's a great sequel but luckily it stands on its own as a decent family movie. Marlin & Nemo become kinda superfluous. Dory's story is nice, funny and emotional, and is a great metaphor for mental illness. Some of the new characters work, some of them don't. I think they covered this underwater world pretty perfectly in the first movie, so while I don't think this one was necessary, I did like it. It was entertaining and gorgeous-looking throughout.

If it had been a direct-to-video sequel I'd have said it was surprisingly good, but it has all the pitfalls of those films. A rehash of the original plot with a couple new characters plugged into familiar roles. Too much to ask given the state of blockbuster film... but I hope Pixar sticks to original stories more often than not in the future. Baby Dory is adorable, though.

Rewatch. A nice sequel that is lighter than Finding Nemo. A similar formula of a main character spending a whole act stuck in a tank/facility/office. It's a different way to tap heartstrings w/r/t Dory's disability.

Although both Dory and Nemo remain mildly annoying characters, Finding Dory is a worthy sequel and an enjoyable watch. Narratively this is a gigantic mess that makes no sense on any scale, whether it be the dozens of gigantic coincidences required for the overarching plot or the little things in every scene that go way past improbable into completely impossible. Why can't these fish just have an adventure in the ocean, completely independent of humans? At least it's fun. The first genuinely funny Pixar film in a while with some good characterizations from the leads and amusing moments from the secondaries.

I freaking love this movie. It's got just about everything the first movie had. The sequel doesn't wow me quite as much as the predecessor, but it makes up for that with an emotional punch I didn't see coming. There's one amazing gasp-inducing emotional payoff that comes close to the lanterns scene in Tangled or even the library scene in Beauty and the Beast. This is rarefied air I'm talking about here, a comparison I don't make lightly.

Perhaps the most bland Pixar movie I've seen, but I managed to avoid the Cars franchise. Not bad, its likely that the Pixar formula for storytelling has been analyzed so much that it'd be more impressive for it to intentionally sidestep it for a change. It also feels like it appeals to the toddler demographic more than any other work. But honestly, perhaps I'm just an old grump and it didn't work for me.

Initially a disappointing rehash of Finding Nemo's Greatest Hits. Later it gets better. The message is okay, healthy for kids and therapeutic for some adults, but made naive by Pixar's tendency to sugarcoat and soft-pedal conflict: everyone's a saint, no mistake is ever anybody's fault or even a concrete setback, and every victory, no matter how contrived, is taken as earned. All in all, it's nice, but just not for me, maybe. It is clever, emotional, and pretty, but left me very skeptical.

Maybe I'm getting old but Pixar's heartstring-tugging just doesn't get me like it used to. Their recent movies are more about manipulating your emotional state with unsubtle voice acting and musical cues, than about telling new stories. No, Ellen DeGeneres doesn't quite do it for me as an infantile fish who wants to be everybody's friend. Some of the supporting characters are droll, and yes the child-parents message is sweet in a good way; it's all the filler in the middle I can do without.

I think Dory was doing most of the finding herself in this sequel but it was fun anyway. I wasn't too sure in the beginning about this movie. Dory was a very annoying character. Voiced by the excitable Ellen DeGeneres, Dory never stopped saying "Oh sorry, I have a memory problem" for at least the first 15 minutes of the film. Finding Dory is probably pretty much what you expect it to be: A step down from Finding Nemo, but still more than a serviceable sequel, it makes up a good enough reason to exist and sell more fish-centric merchandise. Its story is basic and its characters aren't great, but its hero's plight is relatable, the animation and vocal work is strong, it has a few laughs and a couple of good action sequences, and the way it showcases Dory as more than capable makes it worthwhile.

A total retread of finding nemo but talking fish in the ocean never gets old and is arguably better than a talking moose or snowman. The animation didn't seem that great considering they've had a big 13 year time span to improve on this. The story based around Dory the mildly retarded fish wasn't all that compelling either. This film earns this rating simply based on the Octopus and his antics who was the best character by far.

It sure is pretty to look at, but so am I and ... Wait, already did that joke. Nevermind. So, the animation is superb, the plot is entertaining and manages to not be a copy of Nemo and the characters are likeable. But the plot is also superduper predictable and frankly Dory has a hard time being a lead. And I kept getting distracted by the fact that I couldn't figure out exactly how her memory loss was supposed to work. So yeah, it's a Pixar sequel, so don't go into it expecting a Pixar movie.

I'd put this in the upper part of Pixar's middle tier. Despite being a really funny character, Dory constantly forgetting things starts to get old towards the end. Side characters are actually better than in the first movie. The thing is the third act is really a giant mess. Pixar didn't seem to have a clear overall picture of what they wanted the film to be. They just kept prolonging the movie adding in nonsensical action set pieces. Still it had enough laughs to entertain me for it's duration.

Shrill, irritating follow-up feels pitched relentlessly at the under-8 crowd, who might enjoy it more - every character and event in the story feels turned up to 11 to make sure the audience doesn't miss the well- intentioned, but awfully simplistic, life lessons. Plays like a well meaning, but pretty derisive, after-school special; a fine voice cast is left completely out to dry. But then, this comes from a viewer who found NEMO an inexplicably overvalued member of the Pixar canon!

It's been so long that I watched Finding Nemo that I can't really compare the two. As an adult I barely found anything solid for me to watch in this movie. In recent times, Inside Out and Zootopia are the two animation movies that come to mind for being for kids as well as adults. That said, it is not a movie that gets on your nerves either. It just barely passes the "watch" mark.

Outside of one fantastic and meaningful image (late in the film involving shells) and the wonders of Hank the "octopus", this is essentially one long chase film, interrupted occasionally by flashbacks. It does a great job of continuing the story, but a lot of the plot just seems "convenient" rather than well thought out and a lot of the flashbacks proved to be really sad. There are certainly fun and funny moments, and it's worth a look but not a must.
