Draggy and unnecessary music was an unpleasant introduction to this film and betrayed some poor taste on the directors part. The movie needed some serious trimming and in a leaner, less arty form i could have enjoyed it more. No doubt the most unsympathetic character that Binoche portrayed, ever. It was angering to watch and altho i know that's not an indictment of a movie, i feel it was bc Denis didn't have a very solid grasp on the mental condition that made her behave like this maniac.

Despite the strong performances and impressive cinematography, “Both Sides Of The Blade” ultimately falls short due to its overly melodramatic script and lack of honest emotion.

Certainly less agonising and more thoughtfully made than previous Denis films (even the ones about the same subject matter). It's a pretty damn stripped back tale, with a respectable, though not heaps riveting, conclusion. But it's gripping in the little it shows, helped by powerhouse performances from the romantic duo, and helped further by a focused script.

I like Denis relationship dramas better when they are vampires.

Denis's poignant, sensual, sometimes even disturbing suspenseful love story about a woman, the man she loves now, the man she used to love and the complications among bodies in motion and on fire. Beautiful and underrated film.

Claire Denis' triangle of love, passion and betrayal, Both Sides of the Blade takes the hypocrisy of obsession to frustrating proportions. Not being able to predict what the characters will do provides a gripping uncanny. Juliette Binoche and Vincent Lindon are amazing.

Do people really stand in front of the mirror and speak like that out loud? I think the stare said all there was to say on its own. It was building tension well for a while but got a bit OTT.
