Despite not showing anything new or surprising, the documentary succeeds in presenting people who are passionate about what they do, in addition to a soundtrack and inspiring images.

As much as I enjoyed the usual Herzogisms (lingering on extraordinary people, delving deeper into their psyches than the subject matter etc.), this is the first time I've noticed him playing up to his reputation. Self-reflexivity and Herzog is a weirdly hollow mix, albeit one he's earned the right to.

As it happens with most recent Herzog documentaries -- totally driven by his everlasting curiosity --, a pretty by the numbers account -- maybe too many interesting stories crammed into a nearly 100 minute story -- elevated by his witty, sometimes hilarious and just plain weird -- Antarctic section is just awesome -- voiceover.
