This 'home video' pastiche is simultaneously a celebration and critique of marriage; a critique of the illegality of homosexual marriage and a celebration of the joy made possible by the marriage event. Friedrich succeeds much more with the latter than the former, indeed so much so that I'd say that Friedrich is borderline masterful in her use of the camera, editing and pairing of music with (moving) image; she conjures the mythical joy of marriage into a totally satisfying cinematic form.
