Interesting but very formulaic documentary. The young dancers are great, but as so often with dance films, the filmmakers are unwilling to simply allow the viewer to enjoy more than a few seconds of dancing at a time, and insist on editing and cutting every routine, almost as though a film that ostensibly "celebrates" ballet does not in fact have any faith in the ability of the artform itself to captivate audiences. And yet, the audience for such things is mostly dancers and dance students.

Having danced for about 10 years and doing a ton of competitions, I can say that this documentary really struck a chord with me. The competitive dance world is intense. You're surrounded by obsessive parents, tight schedules, and kids yearning for a career. Having been removed from that world for some time now, it was rather surreal to see it again. The kids in this film are all fantastic, but the documentary does them little justice. It is formulaic and really shows the bare minimum of dancing.

Too repetitive and formulaic to be really interesting

The classy dancing version of Toddlers and Tiaras.

Not exactly an interesting piece of movie-making, but these are some marvelously talented kids being showcased here. Worthwhile just for the all-too-brief footage of them dancing.
