Sam Fuller's tough, unsentimental Korean War film comes across at times like a slap in the face. All Fuller films should have exclamation points in their titles.

Interesting and often graphic. Many scenes have a documentary flavor and Basehart is very good as a corporal who has a chance to be a hero.

Dealing with an internal conflict, while fighting an external conflict gives the film an interesting flavor. It's still filled with stereotypes, but well worth watching.

Fuller's second Korean War epic is just as gritty as his first ("Steel Helmet"), and it stood in direct contrast to the sappy and/or nostalgic WWII pictures of the time. One of Fuller's best films, and that's saying a lot.

Just ignore the stereotipes about the 'reds', it's still an interesting, low-budget war flick. Not so good as Fuller's other war movie from the same year, Steel Helmet.

Downbeat war melodrama of a familiar kind, with more characterization than action.

An early entry in the "ragged bunch make last stand" trope war movies, which I usually like. Fullers directing is confident and good. But the movie suffers from the low-budget and it so clearly being shot in a studio.

In a weird way, I was more drawn to the cold environments and the general atmosphere surrounding this battalion. The war plot is a little hollow, but so was the general fundamentals of the war that was fought. The chemistry between the soldiers makes up for it, as they try to cope with the hopeless situation they're in and it's a fascinating portrait. Samuel Fuller at play.
