Well done, but I kept asking myself why they would want to make a movie about a self-absorbed basket case who specialized in massive self-deception. Streep's character was the opposite of a scene stealer. A better title would have been, "How to Live a Lie".

Meryl Streep acting as someone without talent. Heh.

Not an awful movie, but too little substance to it. There were some hilarious bits, the acting was mostly on point, and it seemed to be fairly faithful to the real life story of Ms. Jenkins. However, it just dragged on a lot, and that over dramatized catatonic fit that lead to her death at the end was beyond ridiculous.

Affectionate and extremely well-crafted study of a potentially derisive (and pathetic) figure; Streep's towering and empathetic performance finds the correct note between pathos and scorn for this strange and eccentric woman (and hits all the right/wrong musical notes perfectly); Grant is no less impressive as the audience surrogate, who further illuminates the humanity of Jenkins. If there is a (genuine) wrong note, it is in Helberg's overly mannered 'aw-shucks' performance.

Another great performance from Streep elevates what could easily have been just a Lifetime movie with high production value. Strange, though, that the screenplay strives to remove all agency from Jenkins' journey when Streep is so commanding and intelligent a presence in the story.

A small but entertaining film brought to life but the well-chosen protagonistic trio of Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant and the amusing Simon Helberg. The main joke of the opera singer who can't sing is used bountifully without becoming tiresome, mostly thanks to Streep's delightful performance. The moving finale, executed elegantly by Streep and Grant, was definitely a high point. It's a film that never really becomes fascinating but remains a worthwhile effort.

Meryl Streep shines again despite the mediocre script and directing.. Hugh Grant plays himself: a good actor who knows he'll never be great

Wealthy, well-meaning heiress funds her own opera-singing career all the way to Carnegie Hall despite being utterly oblivious to - and sheltered from - her striking lack of talent. And that's about it. A lighthearted, inoffensive piece (the dramatic peak of the entire film is a sequence involving trying to hide a bad newspaper review) with consummate performances by the leads, but the lack of focus on anything in particular meant I struggled to see what the point of it all was.

There were a lot of laugh-out-loud moments, although it was really tragic. I enjoyed this a lot more than I thought I would.

Well, this was quite nice. I wasn't initially very interested in seeing this, but after Meryl Streep's Oscar nomination, I had to give it a go. And yeah, it was a sweet story. Streep was great, of course, and I thought Simon Helberg was really good, too. It looked nice, had humour and sadness, and while there was nothing truly exceptional about it, I'm glad I watched it.

Florence Foster Jenkins was a touching film about the world that was built up around a rich woman in New York who was a patron of music. Meryl Streep plays Jenkins in this comedy drama about the life of a real woman. Hugh Grant plays Jenkins second husband. Their relationship is non-standard but quite endearing in the end. Simon Helberg plays a talented pianist who is tasked with accompanying Jenkins. The audience will question the fake world built for her but it's endearing in the end.

No. This is not good. It feels very unrealistic and I most definitely did not feel the chemistry between Streep and Grant. To my surprise the only one that stood out was Helberg, he is amazing in this role and was the only one that made me laugh. The rest is crazy insane, and not in a good way. 36/100.

Sweet tribute to an icon of the operatic world. Streep turns in her usual excellent performance, and, as usual, excels at comedy.

As a music major, I was really excited when I heard that Meryl Streep was going to play Florence Foster Jenkins in a biopic. The result is... fluff. Which is kind of what I expected. It's very fun fluff, but unfortunately there's really no substance to it - the leads all certainly give very funny performances (especially Simon Helberg, but Grant and Streep definitely get their moments too). I'd say watch it if you're interested in the subject matter or if you just want something light and funny.

Florence Foster Jenkins (or Another Reason Weath Should Be Taxed) is a sweet albeit forgettable film. Streep, as a batty old broad, and Helberg, as a meek pianist, are a chore to watch. Grant had a few good comedic moments, and Ferguson a few good dramatic ones, but it's Arianda who really shines, stealing every scene she's in. The ending is well-performed, but uninspired and one's left not wanting any more.

I thought this was a really touching film, about loyalty and friendship and allowing someone to live their dream. Just watching Grant and Streep act their socks off was a real pleasure. It wont move mountains but it was a great piece of cinema

Florence Foster Jenkins reminds us all that, sometimes, passion trumps perfection. That what we love doesn't always make sense. That anything worth pursuing is worth pursuing with gusto. And despite the film's sexual dalliances and occasional bad words, that's a good reminder in a culture that sometimes puts an unhealthy value on perfection. (pluggedin.com)

Meryl Streep has a ball giving her all to the title role of Florence Foster Jenkins, the Ed Wood of delusional opera singers. And so you forgive the film its faults, its clunky exposition, its cheesy overreaching, just like like you forgive Jenkins her vocal attacks on Mozart, Verdi, Brahms and other composers she kills with misguided love.

Frears never quite seems to decide how much we should be laughing at or laughing with Foster Jenkins. It's to the films detriment, but I will say that at no point does this film feel insensitive or callous, and by-and-large it maintains a pleasant sensitivity. Grant and Streep are both very good, and that central relationship between the two that the whole film hinges on is tangible enough to deliver some emotional resonance to the ending. Basic, but perfectly enjoyable.

It's only yet another example of Streep's towering skills as an actress. The story itself is awkward and occasionally funny, like the woman it's based on.

Funny and poignant at the same time. Laugh? Cry? How about both? Listen to the real Lady Florence to understand just how perfectly Meryl Streep DOES NOT hit the notes. (And just so we're reminded she can really sing, she performs, at one point, to match what Lady Florence hears in her own mind.)

Take away the interesting subject matter about the pre-MirandaSings meme machine/Outsider music legend Florence Foster Jenkins, which is the first film that's about her (and not inspired by her) and all you've got is some vanilla Oscar Bait. It's quite underwhelming, really.

Unlike the lady herself, not terrible enough to be amusing, just kinda meh. Funny in parts, but the laughter dies when you realize just how deeply lonely and miserable she is, surrounded by people who only pretend to love her, one way or another. The brilliant performances really carries this one home.

Streep and Grant are great and entertaining, but it's not particularly memorable. It's hard to be entirely sympathetic to Florence or give real justification to why things happen the way they do.

A sappy, manufactured, cockamamie, ahistorical and thoroughly miscast affront to the memory of outsider music legend Florence Foster Jenkins, and even moreso to her mysterious accompanyist, Irish-Mexican Cosme McMoon, transformed into a pitiful anti-semitic caricature by Simon Helberg.

Pretty much the same film as the French release Marguerite (2015) which was also inspired by this unique songbird's life, except this one has very famous Hollywood faces in the roles like Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant and Big Bang'er Simon Helberg. The French version was more fun while Florence Foster Jenkins (2016) tries hard to make the absurdity sentimental. Digestible pleaser of a past curio personality.

I laughed, I cried and my entire body crinched (positively) at several occasions. Meryl Streep was wonderful in this role and Hugh Grant, who you suddenly realize has aged for the first time ;) was a perfect match for his part. *Good
