I guess the moral of this story is nice guys finish last? Still enjoyable, especially as a Frances Farmer fan, and the scenes of the workers drilling for oil were interesting.

John Garfield on the run from the police finds work with Pat O'Brien's oil outfit for a perfectly serviceable Warner Bros programmer. Garfield gets in a few good fights, but is otherwise tamed by O'Brien who plays father figure to him. Or a mild rival when things starts happening between Garfield and Frances Farmer. Could possibly gotten more out of this script considering such a solid cast and with plenty of action around the oil fields, but I won't complain.
