The usual slumgullion of gender stereotypes, static archetypes, every-Japanese-movie-ever cliches right down to the cute girl crying in the rain. But that's not all, the whole movie is supposed to be about a girl who turns her life around and proves to all the naysayers that she could get admitted to this prestigious uni. However, right after taking the entrance exam she claims "it's in fate's hands now," basically admitting it wasn't all about a year of studying, but some unseen hand.

Positivity will lead to positive results. That type of Japanese feel-good film. Cute one at that. Got to be in the mood for the positivity or else you'll just puke at the high sugar level.
