When you fight for something then you fight against something else and so this is a pro-war movie. "We will be back."

It's not a film to watch to understand the conflict in Syria from a wider perspective, but it's a vivid depiction of the real human cost of war. It's really not for the faint of heart since the film contains a lot of blood and some really tragic and depressing scenes.

The children barely react to the bombs anymore. It's part of their normal.

Brutal and unrelenting account of the Syrian horror show swerves dangerously close to manipulative exploitation as Khateab's camera is shoved mercilessly into the faces of raw grief (especially children), however this first hand immediacy also gives the film its distinctive and powerful visceral charge, and sprinkles enough moments of comparative hope and resilience to keep things bearable. A gripping and worthy addition to the war doco canon.

Can't say I liked that it turns all that terrifying, powerful visual material into a lyrical, heart wrenching film for Western audiences.

Hard to imagine a stronger documentary about very basic questions of life, made in very exceptional circumstances.
