Moore's most down-to-earth Bond, which one could argue doesn't play to his strengths but it makes for, in many ways, the most grounded film since From Russia With Love. Bond's murder of Locque via gunshot and car-over-cliff is nicely brutal, the assorted winter sports action is fun, and Columbo is a lovable ally. I actually like Bill Conti's unusual score a lot too. Kind of forgettable villains, the annoying Bibi Dahl and a meandering middle act hold it back. (Ytadel's series ranking: #17 of 24)

My personal favorite of the Moore Bond films. Someone (fortunately) put the kibosh on Roger Moore's cornball humor (minus the delicatessen line in the intro. WTF???!!!) and made the closest thing to an action-oriented Moore/Bond feature.

When a 54 year old James Bond isn't being lusted after by schoolchildren, it's pretty good. It isn't quite The Spy Who Loved Me, but it beats the whacky pants Star Wars cash-in preceding it.

What a snoozefest. The most memorable part of the movie for me was the astounding lack of sexual chemistry between Bond and the Bond girl: they have an almost father-daughter-like dynamic, with the increasingly grandpa-looking Moore dishing out words of wisdom to his fresh-faced protegee. Makes the sub-plot with Bond rejecting the advances of a peppy teenager look all the more forced and ridiculous (2/5).

The atrocious acting by nearly everyone, including Moore, the dated action and a plot revealing no imagination or effort for anything other than money by pandering to the petulant and materialistic side of mostly certain men, among other things, make this the worst Bond film I have yet seen.

All of these Bond movies seem the same. They are all shot the same and have very few distinguishable features. Generally it's some goofy action scene where you say, "Is that the one with..." when trying to remember which Bond movie is which. Only this one does underwater shit and skiing shit just like 2 different movies in the franchise. Moore's too old. The song is garbage. The villain is ultra-lame. What's the point?

A needed return to some semblance of self-respect after the disaster that was Moonraker. The problem is that Moore is not nearly good enough to carry an otherwise tepid and mediocre Bond entry. The action scenes try to cover up a been-there-done-that plot with another boring villain. It is watchable but Bond should aspire to more than this.

B/c of the rigid formula, the quality of the variables dictates how good a Bond film is. This splits the difference. There're 2 great stunts here (1 very suspenseful on the side of a cliff), but most of the action isn't memorable. The villain's also lame, but Bond gets a Greek buddy which is a change of pace, as is the ending, which shocks b/c of its lack of explosions. Conti's score is awful but the title song is great. Bouquet's stunning & although she's no Diana Rigg, she's no Bach either

I like that for over 10 years, they never even mentioned Bond's dead wife, as if "Majesty" was not a part of the canon. Then, boom, film starts with Bond mourning. This feels like an attempt at a palette cleanser. Where do you go after Moonraker?

Better than its immediate predecessor Bond is back on earth and fighting both a smuggler and a bad script. The villain (Julian Glover) is the least convincing for some time with guest stars making up the numbers. Played less for laughs and with some interesting locations. Better than its reputation but still not the best Bond. Moore is good but can't defeat weaknesses in the plot and casting.

One of the very best of the Moore Bonds, in which we literally return back to Earth and back to the spirit of Ian Fleming after the ridiculous foolishness of MOONRAKER. Not crazy about the leading lady, but most everything else is iconic and fairly restrained. The original (and remarkably sadistic) climactic scene from Fleming's LIVE AND LET DIE is finally brought to the screen -- a few movies late!

"For Your Eyes Only", directed by newcomer John Glen, is one of the finest films in the Bond franchise. The '80s spirit has started to creep in through the music score, but apart from that it's business as usual, only way more exciting. The action is simply grandiose, and never slows down. There are lots of wonderfully breathtaking highlights, resulting in one of the most thrillingly tense entries in the saga.

Sheds the gadgetry of its more recent predecessors in the series in favor of some spectacular stunt work and the usual beautiful girl and exotic locale. Glen's first outing as director, though he handled second units on previous Bond films. Sheena Easton sang the hit title tune.

You never forget your first, and this was my first Bond, so many years ago. It also holds up really well, taking all the flash and nonsense from Moonraker and shoving it in a bin, bringing forth a harder, more serious film. Some parts can be slightly over-long - the identograph! - and the Bibi character makes Moore seem super old, but it makes up for it by being a solid, well made thriller with compelling characters.

Intended as a retrenching for the series after the extravagance of MOONRAKER, FOR YOUR EYES ONLY doesn't achieve the dark grotesquerie of Ian Fleming's novels, but it's a solid attempt nonetheless. The ATAC plot is pretty derivative of FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE, and another underwhelming villain (Julian Glover) doesn't help, but Moore is in good form, Topol is always a welcome sight, and the action scenes are consistently excellent. Carole Bouquet is an interesting if not totally successful heroine.

This might just be the best of the Roger Moore's James Bond films, unfortunately that doesn't really mean too much. Roger Moore is my least favorite "official" James Bond. Most of the action scene are fun if unrealistic and you can easily tell that Roger Moore does none of the action scene let alone stunts. The story is very generic but it gets the job done. In my opinion the order of best to worst would be Sean Connery Timothy Dalton Daniel Craig George Lazenby Pierce Brosnan Roger Moore

Quintessential Bond film: exotic Grecian setting and bond girl Melina, Oscar-nominated theme song, underwater fight scenes, Cold War nuclear intrigue, thrilling yet implausible ski chase, clandestine meetings over baccarat, an ending rendezvous that leaves MI6 flustered, and even an opening featuring a final appearance by Blofeld. However, the story is lacking - the hockey assassins, ice skating protege, and Liverpudlian contessa all end up distractions from the already-too-sparse plot.

Much more grounded than Moonraker and opting for a slightly grittier action-oriented Bond that Moore's previous outings. Shame grit and action aren't Moore's strong points (does he have any strong points?) and he's looking pretty world-weary and tired in this one even compared to Connery's 'comeback' of around the same time. The plot is just a mashup of various Bond elements seen before, with no real stand-out themes of its own. Entertaining but utterly forgettable.

The most down to earth film of the Moore-led era and it was a nice breather compared to previously explored rather bombastic concepts. It had some nice stunts but everything in between was sort of anonymous; there was nothing to grab on to really. The idea to showcase a grittier and more serious Bond works in concept but not on screen because, again, we get waded down by comedy comebacks and camp scenes. Solid but especially unexceptional; this is seemingly the habit with Roger Moore Bond films.

For Your Eyes Only moves on from the outlandish silliness of its predecessor 'Moonraker' and brings back a more grounded sense of adventure. But like all of the Bond films from the Roger Moore era, this still has it's fare share of silly moments. Roger Moore is on top form once again but this film is let down by forgettable villains. However the set pieces are thoroughly enjoyable, in particular the memorable pre-title helicopter sequence and the skiing set pieces are all spectacular.

Once again we have to thank an editor for a great comeback to the Bond franchise. After the unfunny parody, which was "Moonraker", came along a wonderfully entartaining, funny and satisfying flick made by the second unit director and editor John Glen. What I like here, is the selfawareness of the film and impressive setpieces along with some spectacular stunts. On the downside we have a non-John Barry score (Bill Conti and Sheena Easton just didn't work for me). Highly enjoyable Bond cheese.

After the crazy outing that was Moonraker, they came back and did a much more reserved, much less gimmicky Bond movie. This one feels almost bland in comparison. The prologue scene was still ridiculous, with several callbacks to earlier in the series, but none of that became relevant to the actual movie. No really memorable villains, and action scenes that feel like they've been done before.

If you told me I wouldn't like a movie in which a man in a wheelchair is dropped dropped down a smokestack by a helicopter, I'd have to ask, "is it done by Roger Moore?" I recently called A View to a Kill the dullest, but Jesus Christ, this one can substitute for ambien. I really hope they just forgot to hire someone to do the score, because boy, they didn't get their money's worth. It sounds like a snuff film recorded on super 8. Soon, I will get to re-watch Casino Royale. Until then, godspeed.

It's a good, old-fashioned, back-to-its-roots spy thriller - which unfortunately means there's not all that much to set it apart from a lot of the movies in the series. Topol's performance as a Greek smuggler is very fun in what little screen time he gets, and there are also some pretty amazing action sequences - awesome stunt car driving and a very memorable skiing/bobsled sequence. Other than that, not too much of note, though it's definitely fun. Not the best Bond, but far from the worst.

Luckily Bond kills him in hilarious fashion very quickly. This movie is basically non stop action with great ski scenes, underwater scenes and a nice mountain climbing scene and it also has a hilarious soundtrack. Nice little twist in the middle of the film as well. Locque was a decent henchman.

Moore is really showing his age at this point. It's not too bad with the romance, since it takes time to develop, but the action pieces just seem a little bit too stiff and staged because of it. There's nothing egregious here, but nothing stands out, just going through the motions which makes it feel like a series of setpieces barely held together. It has its moments when it works, but when it doesn't I was kinda bored.

This entry into the James Bond franchise is everything I had ever hoped for after Moonraker. While it still doesn't compare to the Connery classics, it treats the viewer well with thrilling action sequences, a witty script, and a fitting performance by Roger Moore. Are there better Bond films? After clearly favoring action over substance in this film, of course there are, but there has without a doubt been much worse.

Moore's attempt at a less campy Bond in the style of From Russia... or OHMSS, keyword attempt. It doesn't quite work because Moore lacks the charisma of early Connery and the script doesn't live up to the dramatic weight of OHMSS. While an improvement over Moonraker, For Your Eyes Only is a mediocre Bond film due to poorly written quips, a lack of gadgetry & a tendency to let scenes run until they get dull. Bouquet is a great Bond girl. Glover a forgettable villain, though the double-agent angle was good. Johnson & the extensive tour of the Winter Olympics were bizarre. Conti replaces Barry for the score; his primary motif seemingly a herald for the 80's, while also being intrusive. The Thatcher bit at the end was funny.

I wouldn’t go as far as calling this careless but it definitely goes about the whole affair in breezy fashion while still offering its viewers many elements that make these films so fun to watch. Seems like an uneven Bond. The first part with the winter sports was somehow ridiculous in many parts, and the music seemed out of a goofy ad. WTF was that with Blofeld??? It has very little unusual death compared to previous installments. But once the plot moves to warmer climates, then there are numerous nice action sequences, tense as well, more grounded. No space lasers here, no world domination, nor large attack on the final base. It's different then, it breaks from the recipe a little.

There’s actually a good movie in there that happens to be bookended by a comically awful beginning and end. Bond actually turns down sex! The stakes are lower, the plot simpler, and the film benefits from this greatly. Sheena Easton is wonderful. That poor guy had his drink ruined for the third time.
