The man had to reinvent himself as an artist to see bubs, Star Trek is POISON. Sweet sweet dry sci fi poison.

Heartfelt and touching examination of the evolution of a cultural icon, while tastefully exploring the behind-the-scenes family dynamics; Adam Nimoy deserves a great deal of credit for this even handed, at times painfully honest dissection of his relationship with his father. Some of the 'puff piece' interviews with Saldana, Pegg etc. (holdovers from the docs origins as a promo piece celebrating Spock), occasionally awkwardly clash with the more truthful family moments.

Pulls together a lot of what was already known about Leonard Nimoy. Stand out moment was when they played the song Bilbo, had a WTF moment and then moved on without comment. Great to hear about the core characters (of which Nimoy was the most outspoken) who really believed in the core philosophy of Star Trek. The documentary successfully gives a rounded account of Nimoys life, painted with both dark and light shades).

Nice rundown of the lives of both spock and nimoy. Felt it could have explored a bit more of the evolution and enduring nature of the character. Also came as a shock when it abruptly jumped from the time of star trek 6 to the Abrams reboot. Granted, spock wasn't up to much in that time, but after a good deal of depth covering 66-91 this nearly 20 year break without even a cursory look at nimoys life in that period stood out sorely.

Good, nuanced look at Nimoy and Spock. Great year for documentaries.

He would have been an impressive man just for his incredible performance of Spock all those years, but Nimoy was a renaissance man, who was not only a great character actor, but also a director, photographer, writer and family man.

We have more people playing the character than ever before, it really helps to see what Nimoy brought to the character (helpful as we watch TOS as pandemic viewing). Shatner is turning 90 these days, and it feels like these people are so embedded in our culture now.
