I had a decades long streak of never seeing Christopher Lambert’s scrotum going, Stuart Gordon you diabolical. Would’ve loved to see the big budget Arnold version (of Fortress not scrotums)

Saw this when I was 6. Still have never gone to jail. Very life-changing film.

Jeffrey Combs is brilliant in this, one of Gordon's finest moments from the 90's.

No movie with the likes of Jeffrey Combs, Kurtwood Smith and Vernon Wells can possibly be anything other than great fun and this movie delivers. I'm not sure why so many people on this site give it a bad score.

Another one of these films I first saw late at night in high school. Blame the drugs but its somewhat enjoyable.

Few genre directors converted trash into treasure like Gordon in his prime. He excelled at pure escapist films that made no pretenses of being anything more than they were, and his serious commitment to horror and sci-fi proved that you can be tongue in cheek without resorting to false irony or cheap condescension. Originally an Arnie vehicle, Fortress suffers somewhat from budget constraints, a lack of wit and of course Lambert, but it's an action packed sleigh ride through schlock heaven.

Gloriously bad sci-fi schlock that, if you're in the right mood for it, still has the capacity to entertain. Come on, it has Lambert inside a wooden shed with a machine gun for an arm shooting at an A.I. controlled truck while his wife is giving birth at his feet!

this is a beautiful film.

D-list actioner given some spit and polish from Gordon’s loony sensibilities, especially in Smith’s…. eccentric? villain, who swoops in and steals the show; ultimately hampered by cheap production design, (after establishing an intriguing view of the future, it’s a shame we only see it from the industrial warehouse side!) and Lambert’s monotonous lead performance, which is too dull to get even derisory laughs (oh, for the version originally to be lead by big Arnie). Still fun for genre fans.

RANDOM INTESTINATION! Brainless sci-fi fun.

Fortress is a pretty interesting one. Kind of messy at times but it has a plot that drives the action forward. Also some pretty hilarious concepts by today's standards. I also liked how the dude gets locked up in a freaky maximum security prison and first night he promptly falls asleep and has a very vivid sex dream about his wife. The prison warden spies on the free porn, no less, so again... interesting ideas, right? I kept confusing Christopher Lambert with Thomas Jane all the time.

How did Lambert ever get an acting career off the ground?

An ok dystopic action film, but this kind of thing doesn't do much for me and Lambert isn't a very good or charismatic actor.

not a horrible sci-fi movie by any means, not exactly the best story in the world and i suppose i have a soft spot for christopher lambert. watch it if you're a fan of the genre, not if you're looking for a cerebral blockbuster.

Pretty bad. Still kind of enjoyable, if only for Kurtwood Smith playing an insane person. Again.

Woohoo, another in the much too short line of brilliantly stupid sci-fi action films from the late 80s and early 90s. Robocop was the best, Total Recall was on par with it but this rules quite a lot as well. In a shitty way.

This film should've stayed locked up, which is a pity really 'cos I normally like Kurtwood Smith

Daft but enjoyable future-prison schtick. Borrows elements from every sci-fi flick that came before it but doesn't offer anything new. Worth watching if only to marvel at how anyone thought Christopher Lambert had the acting skills to carry a movie. Even in the depths of intestination (yes, really) he can barely portray anything.

Not as fun as it could have been, but there are moments of b-movie brilliance (intestination, enhanced human...). Sort of hoped for something better given Gordon's directorial credit. Lambert is one of the worst actors in history.

So ridiculously bad, it deserves to be seen. The first 30 minutes are almost amazingly blatant in its homoerotic undertones without actually doing anything to make it visible. The rest of the film is so cliche you know exactly what's coming next, and can almost "sing along" in a way.

Absolutely entertaining in its silly way but notable for the reason that Lambert is not leading man material.
