A great film, combining comedy and drama excellently, with 2 giants of French cinema as leading roles, Jean Gabin and Bourvil, both excellent, and a third giant, still unknown at this time, Louis de Funès, as "Monsieur Jambier, 45 rue Poliveau", a brief role, but memorable.

I've seen Jean Gabin play a criminal numerous times, but I've never seen him play such a grade A asshole as Grandgil in "La Traversée de Paris", who is just an eccentric painter in Nazi-occupied France. Aurenche and Aymé have selected the damnedest premise for a comedy - you'll never see anything else quite like it. Very well directed, and Gabin and Bourvil are excellent.
