it's hard for me to see a movie with flynn without envisioning a sword in his hand so when curtiz decided to put him into a screwball comedy i assumed it would flop. i really liked this movie, and the end wedding scene is one of the more memorable scenes i've seen in a long while.

Screwball comedy isn't Curtiz/Flynn's forte, but they carry it off amiably enough. The craze for the newspaper genre in the 30s has them coughing up plots that are so trivial you wonder how they sustain them.

I'm not big into Rosalind Russell's stuffiness and Knowles' blandness, but Flynn and de Havilland are having such a great time, it's hard to resist.

A very funny screwball comedy full of energy and unexpected turns. However there was something in the acting which felt a little... restrained maybe. They were having a lot of fun though and that shined through. Errol Flynn & Olivia de Havilland always have a special chemistry together and the movie was always best when it was those two. One of the things that stuck out was Havilland's geeky laugh! Got me laughing the same way. What a lovely miniature train set Walter Connolly got to play with!
