After serving time in prison, Francine settles down in small-town North America. Through a series of temporary jobs, she tries to regain a foothold in society. However, this security proves just as elusive as the connections she tries to forge with people in the town. As her human relationships falter, Francine looks to animals for support, a development that leads her in a tragically wrong direction. (Berlinale.de)

A raw, crude everyday observation of a woman who just can't communicate in a decent way with people -- not even through casual sex, not even at work. This is life -- and, in extent, filmmaking -- in pure state of resignation.

Very creepy and sad portrayal of a disturbed woman who can relate to animals but is not successful in negotiating the nuances of human communication. Melissa Leo delivers a very powerful performance in this P.O.V. movie. Jarring soundtrack and scenes not often allowed in mainstream movies reinforce the viewer's immersion in Francine's world. Beautiful color photography offsets the drabness of Francine's life.

A really subdued look at an ex-convict trying to assimilate to normal society. It's a really tragic look at how she struggles to build relationships, and turns to animals for friendship (but ultimately struggles with that too). A quiet movie, but a powerful one. If you can find it then it's worth your time.
