Did you know they made a sober Leaving Las Vegas? Did you ask for a sober Leaving Las Vegas? Me neither but here it is. Justin Long has an interesting filmography at this point. What a random role.

liked the small, personal scale. it's all very low key, soaked in this weird borderline tension, complimented by the strange chemistry between shannon and poots, topped with some nifty editing. best go in blind and enjoy it more for the ride than where it's ultimately headed.

Low-key (mostly) two hander is fascinating to behold as it unfolds, but unfortunately never adds up to much -- Shannon continues his excellent 2016 with a brilliant portrait of obsession, with Poots appropriately aloof and inscrutable as his object of desire. Resembles BAD INFLUENCE in some ways, though its general lack of notable incident, and some occasionally choppy and confusing editing, are detriments. Still a genuinely interesting and original take on relationship drama tropes.

One of those half-formed successes where you enjoy the set up and introduction of two interesting characters brought to life by exotic-looking actors, for about 20 minutes, then the writer decides to send them on some kind of journey and it all starts to fall apart. It says a lot that the brief subplot about a chef going to a sort of job interview holds more interest than 50 minutes of two lovers cheating and falling out with each other. One of those narratives with far too much down in its arc.

Both Michael Shannon and Imogen Poots are very good in this film. The script however could have used a rewrite. The script is not as good as the performances. There are some good moments but overall this film is disappointing.
