This bears so few of the traits that 1 might hope to find in a Frankenstein film that the title is almost misleading. It's not just that there's no "monster" or that the doctor's so repugnant that there's nothing to admire or sympathize with, but it's essentially a cat & mouse game where no one outwits anyone. The director also attempts to build tension by having us wonder whether the doc will be discovered, even though no one's in any jeopardy & he's so loathsome, you don't care if he's found

This and Curse Of Frankenstein are my two favourites of Hammer's Frankenstein Cycle. This film's story is good for the first two-thirds of the film but loses steam before picking up again for the ending.I really liked the fact that Dr. Frankenstein is portrayed as a methodically evil man who will do anything to further his goals.

Another above-average Frankenstein flick from Hammer. Cushing's lead character really takes a dark turn in this installment, becoming more of a calculated serial killer and less of a quack doctor.

The giddy ghoulishness of the doctor smacked against the genuine tragedy of the women and Dr. Brandt makes this the best of the series

Apparently Hammer thought Dr. F was becoming too soft. He's quite diabolical in this one.

I liked this one, but Frankenstein seemed like a completely different character compared to the earlier films. He was absolutely vicious in this. It felt more like a soft reboot where he was just evil as fuck.

If it wasn't for the unnecessary and unneeded rape scene that didn't have anything to do with the plot or was even brought up again I would've rated this higher. The acting was pretty good for a hammer film and the story was unique for a Frankenstein feature its too bad they had to soil it with that out of place scene.

I have realized after watching two Frankenstein Hammer films that I am just not that interested in their versions of Frankenstein. I watched this in three sittings and it still felt too long. The rape scene feels egregious. Apparently everyone on set, except for the producers, thought so, too.

Simon Ward looks more suited to a '60s pop group than a Hammer horror, and there's an annoying sub-plot with Thorley Walters giving the most outrageous display of over-acting I think I've ever seen, but this is still pretty good. Cushing plays a different version of Frankenstein in virtually every one of these films, but here he is cruel and amoral, driven mad by power and the lust for knowledge; just as Frankenstein should be.

Frankenstein must be destroyed before he can dunk on more old British people and narc on 19th century cokeheads. Joking aside, this is easily one of the best outings in the Hammer Frankenstein series, fun, fast paced and almost never boring.
