Entertaining and visually interesting. The mirror shots near the end and the creation sequence are wonderful. A fine start to the horror genre.

It occurs to me how almost experimental this really is with its story. Today you could never get away with a lot of the more surreal moments in this. Yet it was immensely popular upon its release. It was also very graphic with the creation of The Monster. Like watching butchering videos in reverse and again very few can stomach such scenes even today in horror.

A very short summary of the book that could have benefitted from being even shorter. The mirror idea is an interesting psychological idea, but actually makes very little sense given the rest of the film.

The first ever film adaptation of Frankenstein & for me a very neat horror short. The camera-tricks utilised to show the monster's creation & the mirror (used as a fantastic psychological plot device) are very well executed & imaginative. This turns out to be one of my favourite films from early cinema & I recommend you utilise YouTube & give it a watch.

Eh, at the end of the day this is the kinda film you don't feel like watching twice imo, ingenuity aside. You might say that it's effective when understood in relation to its context, but my response would be to point out the fundamental irresponsibility of adapting a novel into a 12 minute film, leading to a horrifically reductive conception of the story. It does have some cool effects though.

Not the Karloff movie but the short silent film. It's silly and dumb, I'm sorry to say

I really liked this! The 'creation' of the monster scene was spooky as hell.

Kinda creepy, mostly not. Really interesting is the Jekyll/Hyde mirror idea. What that has to say about Science in this early age, I'm not entirely sure.

Very interesting for it's age.

Shelley's cautionary classic on scientific hubris finally hits the silver screen. Or does it? A faithless adaptation yields a bizarre, somewhat muddled story about magic mirrors and giant pots of stew. Cut out the last eight minutes (of a thirteen minute film) and you have a leaner, creepier flick on your hands.

The creation scene is genuinely effective and almost shocking. Neat little mirror trick effect at the end.

Fascinating early horror effort is marked by a still genuinely creepy and unnerving incarnation of The Monster, and interesting staging of the 'attack' scenes, especially at the climax.

Not bad I guess, some good visual moments, but it's so condensed it doesn't do more than hit plot points.

I'll cut this some slack since it was filmed nearly a century ago and was also one of the first horror movies ever made. I will admit, I like that "mirror" thing at the end.

Peculiar and ambitious little phantasmagoria that definitely has some kind of weird place in film history even though it draws more from Jekyll & Hyde than from Frankenstein. Some interesting effects regarding the creation of the Monster and the symbolic ending with a mirror.

A nice original adaptation of the classic story. It's basic, but that's what you'd expect from this era of film.

Simplistic and short (of course, nothing that shouldn't be expected for this time) version of Mary Shelley's story. It has some good details (the creation of the Monster and the scene with the mirror), but it's mostly a quick summary and not very remarkable.

Há 110 anos estreava o curta que seria a primeira adaptação de Frankenstein para o cinema. Você até sente falta da genialidade de James Whale, mas esse curta é um pequeno e efetivo filme de horror que se sustenta por si. Youtube ( https://youtu.be/67ENQibFW9w )

It's got a pretty great 'creation' scene, and the use of Frankenstein's mirror is surprisingly advanced for the time, but overall it's a so-so adaptation of Frankenstein from 1910.
