A white trash teen goes on a road trip to her grandmother's trailer in this goofy 90's homage to the classic Little Red Riding Hood tale. Parts of this are incredibly creepy and gross, but there's also a lot of absurd comedy thrown into the mix...which leaves it somewhat uneven tonally, even if it's a pretty good time overall. Special mention must also be made of Brittany Murphy's lesbian prisoner character, who is skin crawlingly weird in several scenes.

I was just holding on until Reese gets arrested (sometimes with jaw on the floor as Kiefer starts his human urinal investigation) but after her hard r turn in interrogation and then bursts of laughter at Kiefer's disfigurement I was strangely entranced. This is an indie.

Kiefer Sutherland and Reese Witherspoon are both so on top of their game in this movie. It's creepy, and it's hilarious. You can't get much better for my money.

I really don't know quite what to think about this one. I wasn't even sure what was going on half the time. The plot is simple enough, but it was so bizarre and all over the place and I couldn't figure out if it was drama or comedy or what the fuck I was watching! Reese Witherspoon was kinda awesome but kinda annoying as shit - I'm not sure which. I guess both.

The first 1/2 of this film is one of the most unexpectedly compelling things I've ever seen simply b/c human disasters are as hard to look away from as car crashes & its all played as raw & refreshingly un-PC as they come. But after a jaw-dropping turn midway through, it starts to feel like it doesn't know how to fill the time until the climax we want, so we get a long bleeding-heart detour meant to damn society for wanting to punish violent teens. It stays relentlessly unpredictable though

It’s sadistic and twisted and goofy and all the things I want in my sleeze, *and somehow* I still get an A-list cast. I love how at the end Reese murders everyone and Dan the detective is like, smile, good for you, kid. I like to think a sequel could be a Witherspoon / Hedaya meet-cute where she brings over a new beau named Evan Williams and he’s like, yep, He’s the One. Out of all the surprises, baby-cut up-face Brittany Murphy as a lesbian prison psycho is a standout.

Reese Witherspoon is amazing as a wild child with lots of anger issues. She shoots a mass murderer, but rather than being hailed as a hero, is charged and prosecuted. The story is horrendous, dirty, violent, full of potholes, but they do a great job of keeping it exciting and engaging to the end. Excellent performances from a big cast of great actors including Brooke Shields as the distraught wife and Brittany Murphy as a marvelous troubled teen.

Witherspoon seems to have fun as an aggressive trashy teenager, and Sutherland makes a wonderfully creepy antagonist, but the film itself is kind of a mess. A glorious, twisted mess filled with despicable characters that loses focus in the second half.

If you ever wanted to see what it'd be like if Reese Witherspoon played the most outrageous caricature of teenage white trash you could imagine, but still retained the feminist fire her characters have become known for, then this is your film. Also features utterly unhinged Kiefer Sutherland, Brooke Shields, and Brittany Murphy. Absurd pitch-black comedy that manages to balance the absurdity with sharp social commentary.

Was referred to this by John Waters' "Movies That Will Corrupt You," and this is some seriously -fucked up- and hysterically funny shit. Laughed my ass off. Delicious garbage! [makes chef-finger-kissing gesture].

This totally preposterous and twisted modern day 'Little Red Riding Hood' story will revolt, thrill, and even make you laugh out loud, but beneath all of that, it's surprisingly deft in its portrayal of the damage that the system inflicts on those who need it the most, and in the indomitable spirit of a girl at her limit.

interesting and gritty. Though the end felt rushed and kind of botched, taking away part of what they seemed to be building until then. It's like they suddenly remembered it had to be like the tale and hurried to make it so

Twisted and hilarious, with a (typically) dynamite performance by Reese Witherspoon as the volatile Vanessa Lutz, and a very creepy Kiefer Sutherland as a big bad wolf-like serial killer. A perfect black comedy.

Here was a movie I didn't even hear of until recently and I found this to be quite different and refreshing. Sure it is a take on Little Red Riding Hood, but it is pretty violent, gruesome and gritty. Kiefer Sutherland was superb, creepy and this was probably the best performance you will ever get out of Reese Witherspoon. No characters to root for as they all are someone you just wouldn't like, but this is a very fun movie to watch. Great cast as well.

I rate this movie as highly as I do because of Kiefer Sutherland's character (and almost that alone). The movie gets insanely ridiculous about half way through, and they ride the "Little Red Riding Hood" theme to death. But, Kiefer's character "Bob" is one of my favorite villains of all time. After he become disfigured is kinda lame, but while they are riding in his Explorer.......absolute gold.

I don't understand the appeal. This film is unbelievably bad. It doesn't work. Witherspoon's performance is one of the most obnoxious I've ever seen, while Sutherland is boring and uninspired. Seeing the two together made me feel like I was coming down with the flu. Edgy for the sake of it without having anything to say. Horrible writing, directing, and acting. Truly one of the worst films I've seen in a while. The praise this film receives boggles my mind.

This was quite an odd, appalling, and surreal exercise. There's a poor man's Natural Born Killers vibe going on. I don't know, I can't recommend this to anyone, and I have zero desire to ever see it again. But it had some real dark laughs, and my attention hung in there to the end to see where the demented ride was going.

90s exploitation films tend to be extra nasty, and Freeway is no exception. Everything is scuzzy and gross in this take on Little Red Riding Hood. Both Sutherland and Witherspoon are great, with the former being about the grossest villain you've ever seen.

Strange, trashy, gritty B-spin on the Red Riding Hood story. Not nearly as bad as I expected, but more than a little hokey. The film's lack of tonal clarity makes for a strange watch; I was on/off entertained/disturbed while thoughts alternated: "this isn't meant to be funny" / "I think this is meant to be funny?" / "I don't know how to read this scene". The uncertainty half lifted when I saw Kiefer Sutherland dressed as Grandma.

The down-trodden, yet determined destitute young lady reminded me of the similar main character from Citizen Ruth that I saw recently, but this film pales in comparison, coming across as kinda fun, but also kinda unserious -- many edgy filmmakers of this era could've tackled this same tale with the same sharp humour, but made it resonate harder. Cool opening credits.

Top badass moment? Two words: Reese Witherspoon. With as much swearing as a Sleaford Mods album and Kiefer Sutherland (both figuratively and then literally) slobbering though the entire film (eew), it’s a compelling train crash of a movie, which continues to trash itself as it ploughs on through whatever’s ahead of it. It glosses over some inconvenient plot points and feels like two films stuck together, but it's still a great bedtime nursery story for kids. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.
