Did you just say there's no nudity in this one. DID YOU JUST SAY THERE'S NO NUDITY IN THIS ONE!!! Sorry. Actually maintains the playful spirit of the fifth one despite its somewhat neutered violence (besides the face in the trailer) and COMPLETE LACK OF NUDITY. Sorry. I enjoyed the return of the camp counselor angle but the main charaTHERE'S NO NUDITY! WHAT IS GOING ON???

The one that pairs nice with the Universal Monsters boxset I just splurged on. Zero terror or boobies in this one instead we are bludgeoned with comedy and some slick shots. If you were expecting anything serious after a 007 spoof opening ... “oh no don’t worry, remember how solemn Schindler’s List got after the skydiving heist” Tommy Jarvis is the dumbest stupidest idiot in film history, stabbing a rotten corpse doesn’t make it extra dead.

Here's another case where I'm rating a movie like Jason Lives far and above classic movies and masterpieces that will live on in history forever. I recognize this, but I just watched a cop with a mustache get folded in half, so I will not apologize.

Marking a turning point in the series in more than one way, "Jason Lives" is the first movie to cement that Jason himself is not a deranged killer, but a supernatural one and in doing so throws continuity out the window. Taken in a vacuum, this is the most cliched installment since the third, and easily my least appreciated one so far. And that's only partly because of the lack of boobs.

Not sure I buy the science of Jason's resurrection... A definite improvement over V; this is still far from Jason's finest hour, but McLoughlin does a much better balancing act between meta-humour and gore, and brings much needed focus back to Jason as the star of the show. This is still a fairly standard mid-80s slasher, though the absurdity of the opening scenes in every sense of the word almost single handedly elevates this entry.

The sixth film in the "Friday the 13th" series surprisingly has Jason Voorhees return from the dead...again, but this time it's really really personal. By ignoring the existence of "A New Beginning" a new version of "Tommy", seemingly by divine intervention, accidentally resurrects Jason while attempting to re-murder his corpse, and inadvertently all this lunacy leads to probably the best overall film in the franchise yet even sans boobs.

I suppose it's no surprise that this was directed by a guy who went on to work exclusively on made for TV movies. It's horrendous even by this series' low, low standards, full of cringe-inducing "humor" and soulless, repetitive, mostly goreless kills. It doesn't even have T&A to supplement its awfulness. Basically, if you've ever wondered what a PG-13 Friday the 13th movie written by Carrot Top might look like, be sure to check this out.

Tommy is back! Jason is back, now in ultrazombie form! Yay! Rubbish. How many more of these are there? The sheer ludicrousness of this serves up a few laughs, but that's about it. This was pretty tame as well. Can't remember how many people died. I felt nothing.

Friday the 13th: Part VI -- Jason Lives is a sillier version of films we've already seen in this series, but its sense of humor and winks at the audience allow it to be watchable. The filmmakers know how ridiculous the franchise has become, and they make nods toward that. That doesn't excuse the lack of discernible characters or the unimaginative kills, but I'll certainly take a less serious take on what we've seen before than a serious one that winds up exactly like earlier entries.

Six movies into the series and finally something somewhat watchable, even if the opening scene does create about a half dozen plot holes from the previous films. It's Friday the 13th though, so who cares. They finally figured out that actually showing Jason makes for a much better film. Way less boring POV crap here. With a couple of decent jumps, a cast of characters that aren't completely vomit inducing, and a few good jokes, this one stands out from the previous films in the series.

Comical zombie resurrection of the original Jason. Script, directing, acting and gore are plain dirt. Poltergeist kind of kid girlie with long blond hair tries to fit in, but fails as everything else. No nudity, but some cheesy non successful theatrical sex tries exists. Finally Jason's got mask for reason: he's already decomposing and mask is protecting hits from the outside as well. The best weapon against Jason: paintball gun. Pure crap for ultimate Jason fans only.

A turning point in the series where the creators said 'fuck it, this is silly and we are going to play it that way!'. McLoughlin directs with some style, and he is going for laughs, which makes it easier to stomach, regardless of whether it's actually funny or not. The tongue in cheek approach is its saving grace, although McLoughlin loses his nerve somewhat in the final reel by playing it straight. Thankfully it results in one of the few tensely crafted finales in the entire franchise.

Lacks boobies, but other than that: Sweet zombie Jesus! After five fucking movies, they decided to hire some sort of professional scriptwriter! The result is a double up on the camp, the introduction of humor to the franchise, and - yes - witty characters and dialogue. So, they only had the money to travel the back alleys of Hollywood, and hire a writer from the streets, but after having watched five of these in a row, forgive me if I really appreciate the effort.

I have not the words to properly convey how awful this movie is. It's a seemingly endless array of terrible jokes that miss the mark on every occasion, a complete lack of any scares, an idiot plot, terrible dialog, acting that goes so far beyond campy it becomes wilderness survival and overall just terrible movie making. This is a film for hardcore Friday the 13th movie fans only and, even then, it's still not very good.

(2016 Jasonthon #6:) This one brings in a surprising amount of pre-Scream meta horror commentary (a character saying "I've seen enough scary movies to know" such and such, etc.) and a slicker feel and slightly more comedic tone than previous F13 films. It can't quite carry that to the finish line and becomes fairly generic by the end, though, not to say I didn't have a few laughs at Jason menacing all the camp children. The lack of any nudity is a glaring flaw, though.

More fun than ever, as the franchise embraces self-awareness instead of self-parody, elevating Jason's status to a supernatural Frankenstein-like killer. We are back to basics, sort of. Crystal Lake has another name. There are kids and Tommy trying to kill what can't be killed -- Jason destroying the door to get them is aces. We have flashier and more stylish death scenes. Crude humor - raccords all over. Not much of an horror atmosphere, but that's alright: it revigorated the whole damn thing.

In retrospect, the zombification of Jason is where the series starts to break down. The goofy comedy is stomach-churning. There's no investment in anything that's happening on the screen because it's all inconsequential. I might have enjoyed it still if they'd slathered on the sex and nudity but even that's missing. Family-friendly Jason is shameful!

This is not actually good per se & the kills are tame compared to all we've seen, but as a film it's a big improvement over what's come before. The tongue-in-cheek approach to the material actually gave me my first (& probably last) LOL in the series & for the first time the teens aren't all loathsome & actually have to act as counselors for actual children (which raises the stakes) rather than acting stupid & horny. It still has big flaws (the lead girl falling for Tommy), but who's complaining

Because A New Beginning didn't work out, director Tom McLoughlin tried shifting gears. In Part VI, Jason was revived, and the movie was taken in a more tongue-in-cheek direction, with less focus on scares and more on self-referential humor. Jason is given far more screen time, which works with the tone. The movie also references horror classics, as can be seen with Jason's supernatural resurrection via lightning. Overall, Part VI: Jason Lives offers a fresh new take on a tired and aging formula.

A colorful horror comedy in the vein of Return of the Living Dead, Jason the killer retard looks great in this one. Some of the charm is lost thanks to absolutely horrendous acting, which is why it will always only be the second best to me. The paintball scene was also completely unfunny and unnecessary.

The seriousness of the franchise is rightfully over and the time has come to abandon all reason, because what else can you do for a sixth damn sequel? The same beats need to be achieved (teenagers, camping, murders), so let's make it interesting! The film is half self-aware with displays of metahumor and fourth wall breaks. There's fucking Police Academy slapstick. The film wants to entertain. Also, a groovy Alice Cooper Jason theme song over the end credits? This might be my favorite Friday.

Haven't completed the franchise yet, but I'll be surprised if by the end I don't think of this one as the definitive entry. Better than the first?, I don't know, but definitely the best one with Jason as a villian. The beginning is spectacular. Jason is finally a good villain. The kills are plentiful and done well. There aren't a ridiculous number of unmotivated sex scenes. Camp Crystal Lake is back (at least in exterior shots). Alice Cooper. Even the self-referential humor is done pretty well.

One of the better Friday the 13ths. Takes the classic (and tired formula by this point) and changes it by adding kids, adds in self aware humor, and cool action scenes. Sadly because all of this, the horror is lost. And honsetly even though they had a solid story, an actual subplot (a new addition to the simple series), and cool kills; I still found myself being bored by this series. Guess the best this series could be is relatively average but boring slasher.

With better production values and more focus, the sixth Friday the 13h outing clearly constitutes an upswing from the inept and less cinematic previous two flicks. It wisely turns down the gore a bit and instead strives for a more loose, un-earnest vibe, confirmed by the casting of Freddy from 'Return of the Living Dead'.

Much like how Part IV is leagues above Part III in pretty much every way, this entry into the franchise is miles ahead of Part V. Personally, I think of it as Part V done right. A small but distinct cast of characters, a quick pace that never lets up, and the first appearance of a truly undead Jason Voorhees all combine with some really solid writing and self-aware humor that was ahead of its time to create a pretty great entry.

This one plays pretty much as a horror comedy, but does it way better than the previous film in the series. It was a good move to recast Tommy as Thom Mathews is a lot better lead and Jennifer Cooke is fine as well. There's a lot of killings but not that much gore to suit the more comedic tone. Soundtrack (Alice Cooper, etc.) is distinctively 80's which adds to the fun. Pacing is good and runtime kept short and sweet - you can't ask much more than that from 6th entry in a slasher series.

So bummed I gave this a bad review when I first signed up years ago. What was I thinking? Easily the apex of the original F13 series with solid atmosphere and actual children, for the first -- and I think only time in franchise history -- in real danger of being murdered! It's self-referential, winking nature preceded "Scream" by a decade, and is in many ways more fun. Kinda hilarious in spots, really. Should be mandatory viewing every October.

Although it reinstates some suspense after the dreadful "A New Beginning", "Jason Lives" is still a long way from the stronger first four movies. On the plus side, it gives room to some intentional laughs and a couple of eye-catching directorial moments, and it spawned one of Alice Cooper’s best songs. And yet, it’s essentially not much more than a weary rehash of what’s come before, and, to add insult to injury, a rehash contingent on one of the most ridiculous villain comebacks I can think of.

So all this shit could have been avoided if it wasn't for Tommy Jarvis' compulsive need to DESTROY Jason. Because KILLING him wasn't enough for some reason. Most of the movie was people hunting Tommy, with nobody really hunting Jason. I was about to give this movie some serious points for ballsiness when it looked like Jason was about to murder a bunch of small children, but they chickened out on that front. In fact, most of the deaths were pretty uncreative here.

This routine follow-up restores Jason to his rightful position as slasher par excellence and has a great opening reminiscent of a '60s Hammer film, but Mathews (in the role of Tommy) is awful and the ending is ridiculously contrived. Best scene: Jason taking on a bunch of jerky survivalists.

Part V of the series was meant to reboot the franchise with Tommy as the killer, but since Part V also happened to be bad director Tom McLoughlin decided to go a different route with Part VI. With his own retroactive rules set in place he brings the relentless killer, Jason Voorhees, back as a zombie and sets him loose on Crystal Lake (now called Forest Green). This film is much more self-aware than its predecessors and makes Jason out to be more "cool." It's a funny entry and a step up from 5.

The other sequels seem to have been made for a quick buck, this one seems to have been made for fun. This is "the one where Jason gets his maggots". Jarvis digs up Jason to mutilate his corpse, but in the process inadvertantly revives maggot-encrusted Superzombie Jason, my favorite iteration of Jason. The atmosphere and tone of this movie set a new standard for the series. They are not afraid to introduce some humor and go a bit too far in places. Still, it's actually ON friday the 13th unlike most if not all of the sequels and there are lots of kills (though disappointingly little gore).

Something just feels... off. The plotline is basically the same: Jason kills teens. But the crassness of previous entries is gone. Yeah, that crassness is occasionally accompanied by terrible writing and characters, but sometimes that inhumanity that comes with the crassness is worth it (see: Part V). Part VI seems rather by the numbers. It's not terrible, at least, but it's not too interesting either; it's inoffensive.

Although Jason Lives is, on a pure filmmaking level, the best Friday the 13th movie, it isn't even close to perfect. Some of the winks are too winky and the nods too noddy for a movie that still takes unrepentant glee in killing innocent teenagers. The fun is still there though, so it's hard to be too angry at a movie that is at least trying something different.

Tempting to say A New Beginning forced the producers to make a better movie, but they could have had the real Jason kill naked teens for 80 minutes and still made a profit. It's to their credit that they instead chose to follow Elm Street, RotLD etc; Jason is still boring and the resurrection incredibly dumb, but the movie leans into it, finding genuine laughs, coming up with workable characters and inventive kills. It's still overlong, but it works in a way few others in the series do.
