Fun with Dick and Jane

Sometimes I watch a film and after reading the reviews, I think, "y'know, we aren't supposed to like these characters", as a response to the review. I know that seems like I am being judgey, but this is so clearly a satire that I am unsure what else to say. At no point, especially when he's dropping a homophobic slur, are we supposed to cheer for Segal. I feel like sometimes we have this notion that we are supposed to like the people in the films we watch.

Silly but likable comedy stretches credibility (especially for the deus ex machina finale) but keeps on track thanks to amusing performances from Segal and Fonda, and a well chosen supporting cast. While it never quite takes off as well as you would hope, it remains a solid way to pass 90 minutes.

Quite witty and very well performed.

Parts of this were painfully predictable. A bigger problem is that it was plainly made for the wealthy and white with several cringe-inducing jokes hinging on the audience sharing a privileged viewpoint. Overall it was a good story well-executed--not laugh-out-loud funny, but pretty consistently amusing.

I doubt there is a comedic actor who is more underrated than George Segal. Almost all of his films are funny, but for some reason he never seems to get his due.

Entitlement on steroids, what's scary is how many people might identify with these characters.
