While its meaning/ point/philosophy has been showed already several times by exploitation movies, Funny Games is an interesting audiovisual essay of the essence and power of movie violence towards the watcher. I understand why some might feel its just a wrapped-up exploitation for the wannabee-snobs who'd hate watching similiar movies to Funny Games (ie. previously mentioned pure exploitation flicks which often study the same subjet.)

To me, it looked like haneke wanted to show violence in his movie disturbingly boring and through that somehow prove that violence in media is hmm...bad? I looked also his interview (partly) - he was disturbed by such acts like in this movie in real life. I can fully understand that. But i do not get where the media comes into play.

Good directing job, but the screenplay is weak.

A film that brutally scolds you for at any point enjoying it. Clever, but labours the point.

Haneke's relentless Funny Games isn't a pleasant watch, mostly because it makes you look long and hard at why you sat down to watch it in the first place.

A fascinating exploration of violence as spectacle. The film maintains tension and terror throughout. There are also several scenes that are remarkably well done but very difficult to watch.

The best movie I never want to see again. Funny Games is a harshly pointed look at the audience's role in violent horror films. The fact that Haneke directed this film prior to the popularity of Saw, Hostel, and the other "torture porn" horror of the 2000s kind of blows my mind.

Listen, I get it. I understand the underlying message this film is putting out there. I understand the contempt it holds for horror tropes, and I understand its critique on the banalization of violence. I certainly admire this movie for that, and the boldness with which its artistic intent is portrayed. I just felt like this was a miserable movie experience, with no plot to speak of, awkward pacing, and an ending that sort of betrays its message and just lets all its contempt pour out. Eh.

Contains all of the things Haneke is famous for, but with a more strangely American vibe to it.

I hate the way this movie makes me feel. Absolutely hate it. It is as close to mundanely terrifying as humanly possible. Just for the effect it had on me, I don't know....never before have I questioned what a high score for a film is supposed to mean.

This trash should not even exist. The notion of exploring people reaction by creating disturbing and truly inhuman movies is just fucking sick and rotten. Art should show us beauty, help us to sustain through our lives full of insane things here and there, preach us new thoughts, impact our views and values - you get it. What is this shit film about then? Might have just filmed 120 minutes of pure torture or beheadings. The Junk.

One of the greatest psychological horrors in cinema history, truly disturbing. I do also enjoy how it breaks the 4th wall and plays with the viewer.
