This is not exactly fantastic filmmaking and it isn't uproariously funny either, but I love my Futurama and I'm happy just to see more of it. Plus my inner nerd tingles in excitement from all the nerd fantasy wish fulfillment here. The Lord of the Rings parody in the second half of the film is anything but subtle and makes the film feel like two episodes of the TV show watched consecutively, but I don't really mind that. I got about what I wanted.

Yes it's essentially two Futurama episodes rolled into one without the "to be continued..." message but in the end it's simply entertaining. No, it's not the best Futurama you've seen but it's still got some fantastic jokes and enough consistent good jokes to make it a worthwhile watch, especially if you really enjoyed the TV show.

Although it sometimes threatens to devolve into "Family Guy" territory, for the most part the gags are pretty good. But things go south when, about halfway through, it all turns into an extended Lord of the Rings parody. This stuff gets pretty tedious and I don't think the feature-length format is working very well for "Futurama". The writers seem to be struggling to pad out the stories. It'd be nice to see "Futurama" return as a regular series, but on the other hand, maybe the well has run dry.

It was probably a mistake to have the last season occur over four movies, but this was probably the best.

the semi-slow build-up to the finale is the only thing that takes away from this. that is, in fact the only thing that the futurama movies have yet to get before they can translate well into full length movies.

Acting as a blend between the first two movies, Bender's Game is the closest the film series has come so far to recreating the fantastic TV show. With elements of backtracking seen in Big Score coupled with some great jokes and less of the standardised feel of Beast With A Billion Backs, it creates the most balanced mix seen yet in a Futurama film. The part of the film referenced in the title is somewhat inconsistent, but the great jokes intersperced throughout the film keep it running nicely.

A sloppy, episodic mess in many respects, but the moments that work do hit exceptionally well, especially the increasingly frantic and absurd inter-relations between Mom and Farnsworth, as well as the generally zippy and zingy dialogue which ranks with the best of the always undervalued original series. Ultimately though these stories would work better as independent episodes, with the sum total becoming a little wearying (and repetitious) at feature length. Worthwhile for series fans.

Seen: 2. The setup(s) are random, leading to other randomness, that leads to some solid gags. Stay for some of the gags.

Easily the worst of the Futurama movies. The D&D world while charming at first becomes a tired vehicle for lame jokes and Lord of the Rings and D&D references. I wouldn't doubt if this is where Groening and Coen starting thinking about their next series Disenchantment, which works much better because it's not characters visiting a fantasy world.

Feeling like a ninety minute episode, the story is absolutely all over the place (as was the subsequent season of the show), but the characters and the jokes are, although not as good as usual, very funny and make this worth watching only for fans.

Not as good as Bender's Big Score. The Lord of the Rings spoof motif could have sustained a great 22-minute episode, but wears out its welcome over an hour. I did like seeing Mom and her sons and the robot insane asylum again.

Probably the closest the movies come to the humour and feel of the original show. This is aimed squarely at nerds and is quite unapologetic towards the huge number of people who will probably miss half the jokes.

Not exactly the show's best work - it's largely a rehash of previous great moments, and then a contrived justification of their fantasy parody - but it's still Futurama, and it's still pretty enjoyable.

Now I have something to point to when someone asks me, "So, why do you think Futurama can implode?" Stale pop culture jabs, and a plot that feeds the jokes instead of the other way around.

Futurama's strengths (visual gags and sex jokes) are as good as they've ever been, but some of its weaknesses (does Tolkien really need lampooning anymore?) are still present. Thankfully, the show's unfortunate tendency to take itself seriously (remember "The Sting"?) is diminished as well.

Weaker than the previous two, and most of the D&D jokes went zooming over my head, but it's still good for a laugh. The animation is really getting quite beautiful.

Overlong, but fairly entertaining this time around. Still, the humor has gotten really cheap and obvious. I remember when this show was riffing on Heisenberg and P = NP, but now we get Nurse Ratchet (thud) and the world's 800th "Yellow Submarine" parody (hell even Wawa's parody was better!). This is all fair game for the likes of Friedberg and Seltzer, but you have to demand better from this crew.

I wish I knew a lot more about Dungeons and Dragons, because many of the jokes, in "Futurama: Bender's Game", went right over my head. Everything before they are sucked into the world of Cornwood was great. The advantage of a television show, or movie sequels, is that you already know the characters. Most of the comedy comes from the situations they find themselves in. The story of the Nibblonians manages to be quite topical. It's not the best of the Futurama flicks, but good nonetheless.

Someone at Fox forgot to keep the nerds on a leash, and the result was a film with a ton of D&D and LOTR jokes. Good thing Futurama's fanbase is just as nerdy as the people who create it.
