Gai Dimanche is a 1935 three reel film written by and starring Jacques Tati and his friend Rhum. The pair star as down-and-outs (very much their situation in reality at the time) who try to generate funds by providing an impromptu leisure tour in a rickety bus they wangle use of for free. Released in 1935 and rarely seen today, the film offers brief glimpses and hints towards methods Tati would begin to perfect on the big screen a decade later. (surrealmoviez)

Slow moving slapstick comedy that tended to run each gag into the ground.

Vastamente superior ao curta que Tati fez no ano anterior, aqui pelo menos podemos encontrar o joie de vivre tatiano. Box Obras-primas do Cinema Obra Completa de Jacques Tati.

Clumsy enough that it's hard to tell what the joke was at times.

Disappoingly unfunny humour from Tati.

The film engages in the slapstick humor a bit more often than Tati's previous effort, but the overall effect of this film is about the same--amusing but not hilarious. The best scene involves a visual gag of doors that won't stay closed, and the film works best when the dialogue gets out of the way of the images.

A early Tati. Some dialogue, but mostly sight gags one would associate with early slapstick and of course Tati himself. The film is mostly put together with random visual car jokes as Tati & Rhum do a tourist ride with little going right. Mildly amusing, but the major laughs or genius is not present.
