Gaia

It is very beautiful and surreal to watch and I will always enjoy watching some cosmic horror, as there's not enough of that stuff happening with horror movies. The whole 'humans are destroying the Earth' -thing is kinda clunky in this one and it bothered me at times. Still, the movie has some interesting lore and it is definitely not boring at any point.

Sorry 'In The Earth', Gaia takes this year's eco horror of the year award.

Seriously, what's with all the fungus-related body horror in recent years? I'm not exactly complaining, nothing's creepier than mushrooms, but... Anyway, if Gaia was as consistently good as it is when it's good it would be one of the top movies of the year. Some strange character hairpin turns, where the movie itself seems unsure if it should take their rants seriously, and a not-too-surprising ending set it back some. But ghaaaaa.

Too political, got no place in the horror genre. Nothing particularly scary but what they've done is done well enough and it is something new rather than something already done.

I really like the world this movie created. I thought Carel Nel was exceptional. It sort of waffled. On itself tho and the payoff was holo for me. Still enjoyed the ideas, themes, imagery, and performance but it had serious execution flaws C+

The plot is solid but the movie can be a bit slow-paced at times. The concept for the "monsters" is great and it even leaves room for a sequel (which will never happen)

Falters in the climax and denouement. I wish it had a stronger ending. Also, I think the special effects makeup could have been better. But overall this is stylish and well crafted and worth a watch. (Other reviewers seem to be mistaking character motivations for the film's thesis statement. Don't be so literal. The movie isn't about environmentalism.)
