A very enjoyable spoof of Star Trek (and its fandom) with a killer cast and great humor that thankfully doesn't rely on easy ST potshots or meta references. Sam Rockwell as Guy is the stealth MVP. By Grabthar's Hammer, what a movie.

Whenever I make fun of Tim Allen, I occasionally have to restrain myself and remember his involvement in this surprisingly good Star Trek spoof/sci-fi satire.
It's especially funny if you've ever seen any sort of Star Trek episode. But even still, anyone can enjoy this. It's occasionally cheesy, but always pretty fun.

Probably the best Star Trek movie of the last 30 years. I like watching older movies and going "hey it's Sam Rockwell!

Like most of the best parodies (Shaun of the Dead for example), it works both as a hilarious comedy and as what it's spoofing, in this case a rollicking, cheesy, totally enjoyable sci-fi adventure. It's sublimely entertaining, and Tim Allen's best ever live action role by miles.

A movie that reminds me of why I love movies, Galaxy Quest is just a witty, fun slice of sci-fi that has an admiration and respect for the subject matter it parodies. It's heart is in the right place, and some of the actors give their best performances in making it come together wonderfully.

I think this is an excellent spoof sci-fi comedy. Certainly one of the best spoofs genres since a Mel Brooks film.

Bloody hilarious if you're a sci-fi fan, Star Trek in particular. Everyone in it is great. Rickman is fantastic as usual, Weaver playing the busty blonde, Tim Allen in a role that he not only suits but plays to perfection and Sam Rockwell is just side splittingly funny. Sure the makeup on the aliens isn't too impressive but this is a satire and doesn't rely on excellent special effects or make up. Well worth seeing.

The best thing Tim Allen has ever, and will ever do (discounting the Toy Stories, of course). Obviously it helps to have a mild interest in sci-fi, or be a Trek fan, but even someone who just watches TV regularly will find lots to laugh at. The cast is all great, my personal favourite being Sam Rockwell, as the "Enseign Ricky" of the crew, who suspects he'll die at any minute. Alan Rickman is great too, as is Sigourney Weaver as the anti-Ripley. All in all, a very enjoyable satire.

This could have been nothing more than a parody of STAR TREK; instead it's an engaging and smart film which even David Mamet has admitted is just about perfect.

Doing 'goofy' well is certainly not easy. Galaxy Quest is very silly but manages to be funny in addition to being decently sentimental. The cast is great, with Rickman and Shalhoub getting the bulk of the laugh out loud lines. The action bits are fine but it is the comedy and meta-ness of fandom that make this a great cult movie that that still works.

As a sci-fi fan with only a moderate acquaintance with Star Trek, this was deeply enjoyable. It's exciting, it's kind of cheesy, it's entertaining, and it's occasionally uplifting, just like the original Star Trek. And this has the additional benefit of being funny. I love everyone in their roles.

If you either A.) Like Mystery Men B.) Like Star Trek C.) Are a nerd, you will probably enjoy this movie. If you are unsure whether or not you are a nerd, check your answers for the first two. If, like me, you answered yes to both A and B then you are most definitely a nerd. So needless to say, I like GalaxyQuest, Though that's just me. It's good lighthearted fun.

Galaxy Quest is a hilarious spoof of SciFi Conventionalism. It has a lot to offer to a lot of different people, and it unleashes the nerd in everyone. It's very clever, highly entertaining, and surprisingly quotable. Really good!

The ONLY thing Tim Allen is ever funny in. At times it's a parody of Star Trek and their ilk, others its almost biographical with the tension between actors rumored to have been wrought with on the Star Trek set. A great film all sci-fi fans can appreciate, and those that don't care for the genre will find this funny as hell too whether you're laughing with them or at them.

What Hot Fuzz is to action flicks, Galaxy Quest is to sci-fi. Brilliant satire of the sci-fi TV series and it's sub-culture. Stellar cast and quick witted script make this a film that can be enjoyed repeatedly.

Weird satire of Star Trek and probably the only role that I like Tim Allen in. This is a pretty underrated comedy. The effects and the plot is pretty amusing but don't expect anything deep here. The great cast is also very surprising for a film like this.

A movie with Tim Allen that actually doesn't suffer due to his involvment. Maybe that's because he has Sigourney Weaver, Tony Shalhoub, Alan Rickman, and Sam Rockwell to pick up any slack - not to mention the wickedly funny script.

Fake heroes, mistaken for true heroes, outed as fake heroes, who must then prove their true heroism. Add a great cast of characters, some genuinely funny moments, and an emotional subplot about a nerdy alien and Allen Rickman to this formula, and you have one of the best family films ever made. Don't pass on this horribly underrated flick because of Tim Allen. You're doing yourself a disservice.

A loving & heartfelt roast of the dynamics specific 2 the Star Trek tv series, both w/in and outside of the show, it's got plenty of funny self-reflexive commentary on the lives of actors who have the mixed-bag luck 2 b identified w/ a single 1-dimensional role all their lives. Tailor-made 4 geeks, it's absurd but flat-out entertaining & suspenseful sci-fi action w/ characters that need next to no fleshing out since their public & private images have been part of pop culture 4 decades.

When I was a kid I didn't think much of this film. Years later I love it, the acting is terrific and the story is fun to watch. This is how spoof movies should be done, and Star Trek fans like myself can connect with it especially well. A brilliant comedy on many levels.

|
Amiable spoof of the Star Trek phenomenon (pre-reunion on the big screen), with names changed to protect the guilty. The most scrumptiously swallowable material has to do with the jostling egos of these former TV co-stars, chained to each other and to their old roles as they hobble around the convention circuit. Colantoni helps the main plot go down with his heartstring-plucking portrayal of the trusting leader of the aliens.

CosmicMonkey | 75 49th |
A lovingly affectionate parody of both Star Trek and fandom culture in general, but one that also stands on it's own legs as a stand-alone movie as well. There's set-up and pay-off; character growth and development; there's metatextual humour and witty dialouge! This is is better than half of the actual Star Trek films. (Did they seriously just try to pass off Tony Shalhoub as East-Asian though???)

[rewatch] It's fascinating how this film is more relevant now than ever; I doubt the filmmakers envisioned a 2014 with conventions for everything, let alone Bronies. In addition to being a great space adventure film, it's both a sly send-up of fandom and a compelling argument for the good it provides. This has always been a well-liked film, but I'd argue it deserves a higher critical evaluation than it seems to be given.

Starts as a cheeky exploration of when the actor ends and the character begins, but as the movie progresses, slowly degrades into an unironic Star Trek fanfic. Similarly, the movie only manages to be somewhat funny in the beginning. The Thermians were adorable though.

A very charming parody of a classic television show, with excellent performances from it's superb cast. Very funny, with clever yet loving jabs at it's source material, this is a must-see for Star Trek fans. That's not to say only Trekkies will enjoy it, however. There's something here for everyone.

Brilliant satire of the entertainment industry and fandom in the modern world of convention circuits and cosplay. A direct parody of the iconic "Star Trek", the cast of the TV series "Galaxy Quest", when mistaken for reality by a group of alien beings who turn to the aging actors for salvation in their species time of need, is one of the greatest premises for a comedy ever. The all-star cast is fantastic all around this brilliant comedy/sci-fi/adventure.

This is often written to be so good that many Star Trek fans even place it above several legit Trek movies, and I can see why. It's great as a spoof movie, hilarious throughout, but it's also really solid Sci-fi. I've heard this movie also has an R rated cut (I think it's probably more likely PG-13) and I'd love to see that, but the movie is great as it is.
