Gambit

Light heist film with good chemistry between the leads and a healthy amount of twists to keep things interesting. Fav scene: Shirley MacLaine shimmying into the cage does it for me.

The finest element is the contrast between Caine's idealized view of the heist--presented in a lengthy introductory scene--and the actual progression of the scheme. MacLaine works little wonders, transmitting her character's view of this strange situation with a curious glare and tip of her head. The script fumbles with a perfunctory romance, predicated on the perceived mandates of movie storytelling without any concern for plausibly developing the connection between the characters.

The romance part is quite unsuccesful and the plot turns in the end, while perfectly fine, feel contrived. The heist part is great, the narration works and both leads are superb.

Stylish and charming heist comedy with MacLaine stealing the show. Entertaining even if the plot is silly.

A good caper movie with lots of character, solid direction and a top notch cast.

Both Shirley MacLaine and Michael Caine are god in the lead roles of this movie. The script has an unpredictable start and has some good moments later on. Overall I would recommend this film.

One of many light, comedic international caper films made in the wake of the surprise success of "Topkapi", this is an appealing film that gets a lot of mileage of it's charming leads.
