Somewhat entertaining but wholly irresponsible filmmaking. Seriously, we get that you guys think that IBM cheated, you don't need to cut to shots of The Turk every three minutes. Towards the end we're given the impression that Garry's playing ability and legacy went straight into the shitter as a direct result of the Deep Blue match, and we're even tossed a few Enron references. Classy.

Entertaining enough but really I'm not so interested in the controversy of the match compared to the man vs. machine aspect. Also there's a lot of bullshit and bias in the documentary. Sure you can't really say that computers have the upperhand in the game of chess yet but it's also dumb to hint that these acomplishments by IBM were cheating.

Amateurish but effective muckraking despite the later revelation that The Move was the result not of human intervention, but Deep Blue randomizing itself out of a loop. Watching with this knowledge the programmers' refusal to divulge it every step of the way ends up adding weight to the film's account of what happens when such a contest is conceived and executed for profit and publicity rather than science and fellowship. Of course, the filmmakers' own neglect of the possibility is a fatal flaw.

It's the blurring of Deep Blue and IBM itself that are interesting here, conspiracy theories and all.

Great subject, somewhat solid documentary. The pretentious style did nothing for me and the manipulating opinion of the filmmaker is irritating.
