Darker but plodding. There's a kernel of a great idea in this but takes too long for the payoff and once it happens that goes by too quick. Takes itself a bit too seriously and seemed to suck the fun out of the series.

Very strong conclusion to the trilogy that builds on everything established in the previous movies & delivers exactly what we didn't know we wanted. Pushes the limit of seriousness but walks its talk with an ending so earnestly bombastic in its spiritual message I can't help but admire it. Pinacle suitmation & broad clean character strokes with touches of weirdness. Doesn't escape the usual narrative problems of these types of movies but thwarts their overall effect with its bold conviction.

I feel like with the level of quality most of this movie has reached, the limitations of suit guys fighting really hinders the action of the climax. Still an absolute must if you like kaiju films, because in some ways it's the very best one.

Gamera, guardian of the universe and friend to all children, kills a whole fucking bunch of people. Turtles are dicks. So this is easily the best in the series. It isn't perfect though. The military are fucking idiots in nearly every Kaiju film, but they manage to outdo themselves here, deciding to re-attack Gamera when previously deciding he protects them. Good job guys. Still, the darker tone is excellent, Iris is great and Gamera BLOWS HIS OWN ARM OFF. The scenes with the Gyaos blew me away.

The evolution of Gamera in this trilogy is great! Unfortunately, here in his most powerful and badass form, he's barely in the movie at all! I loved Iris as his antagonist, and Ayana's role, but there was too much focus on them. Also, too much build-up for such a short, yet epic, climax. I was happy to see the return of Mayumi and Asagi, and the new characters were just as compelling. Much better than the second, but not as good as the first. A decent conclusion to this trilogy.
