Saturday afternoon UHF fare for me growing up. If you're 9, this movie is probably going to rate 40-50 points higher for you than it did for me.

Ah, the weirdness of the Gamera movies is a joy to behold. This one manages to be both colorful and surprisingly brutal in its fight scenes; the human storyline drags it down with generic and boring, but the sheer character of Gaos's design lifts it up.

One of my favorite things about this series is that the children are always way smarter than the adult scientists.

More loopy rubber-suit monster fun. Gyaos is one of the dopier-looking monsters of the genre, but that sort of adds to the campy fun. If sprays of purple and blue goop can be considered blood, it's a lot messier and gorier than either of its predecessors, with the rubber monsters spurting teh stuff everywhere as they battle for supremacy on miniature sets of varying quality.

I thought the thing's head was pretty cool at first, but then it started to look rather goofy. At any rate, this one gets under way with no excuse for a backstory at all; and (even though the thing somehow allegedly came from a volcano) throwing it back in there apparently serves to snuff it. Oh yeah, and that kid was obnoxious as hell, as usual with these things (MST: "Why do all Japanese children dress like Fisher-Price kids?").

Oddly conservative, with farmers being the bad guys for trying to get a better price for land they've probably owned for generations. Anyways, Gamera plays a much larger role here and this is where the series takes that wonderful leap off the sanity cliff. [MST3k gets what it's truly been longing for with this off kilter kiddie matinee with which they always excel with.]

Fairly well-made and entertaining, for what it is. Gamera's pretty awesome if you ask me!

Exceedingly silly, even by the standards of a Kaiju movie. The scene of Gyaos in the cave, furiously flapping his wings to make his toe grow back, is pretty unforgettable.
