From a visual effects lab, born and raised, in the ‘90s is where this film should have stayed. More de-agein and dimensions and frame ratin's aren't that cool, everything's sterile, all you see are all the tools. The dialogue and plot, they're straight up no good - hilarious more often than they probably should. Couldn't wait for it to end, maybe the worst film of the year... But now I want to rewatch Fresh Prince of Bel Air.

My three cents: #1. The technology obviously isn't quite there anyway but my god did the Young Will Smith-budget abruptly run completely dry before the final scene. #2. I hope the sequel has two Mary Elizabeth Winsteads. #3. Please put more (presumably) 20 year old scripts into production.

A very dumb, very campy throwback to old 90s action movies. I can see this thing get made for $8 million in 1993 starring Jean Claude Van Damme. Ang Lee's great direction helps gussy up a really weak and goofy film, which isn't self-aware but is fun to watch, though in a very stupid sense. MEW does great.

The HFR absolutely ruins the cinematic experience. High frame rates have a similar effect on our experience as fast motion. They make things feel smaller, less impressive, rather than having that sensation that everything is larger than life, or epic. Think of it similar to low frequency sound vs high frequency. High frequency is clear, detailed, etc, but low frequency gives you that punch. It's a similar sensation here. Aside from the technical aspect, the story just isn't great.

I had an impression from the trailers and stuff this was going to more of a sci-fi movie than it actually is - it’s actually more like a mediocre Mission Impossible movie where one plot point happens to be a clone. Some uncanny valley effects. Sidesteps many of its own more interesting ideas. The action scenes weren’t bad per se, but at the same time I literally didn’t even realize while watching the film’s climax I was watching the climax until suddenly the movie was ending.

Boring. This is interesting from a technical perspective, but that's all it has going for it. The script is literally from 1997, and you can tell. The only reason to watch this is to see the technological advances made in creating high fidelity special effects for exotic film specs, so if you're going to watch this, it must be in a cinema with all the bells and whistles (3D and HFR). There's no reason to see it otherwise.

Pretty forgettable, but not without its pleasures. The action sequences are honestly pretty engaging (a motorcycle chase in the first half is the highlight, and it was the only sequence that seemed to really benefit from the 3D and HFR, even if it made everything feel weirdly artificial) and the de-aging effects are genuinely remarkable (there’s still some uncanny valley stuff, but not much). Will Smith is pretty much always watchable and Mary Elizabeth Winstead is great. You could do worse.

With the de-aging technology still pretty new, there are a few moments where it borders with an uncanny valley effect. So if you want to hinge your movie on digital effects that might not be enough to dazzle on their own, you're going to need to have a good story to back it up, but "Gemini Man" doesn't have that, just generic action thriller fare. Don't conflate generic with bad, though, maybe mediocre.

Pretty goofy, but there's some decent action sequences scattered throughout, and MEW is more likeable than I was expecting. Should have gone out of my way to see the high frame-rate 3D but what are you gonna do.

A terrible script that rightfully wasn't made for years, Gemini Man is only boosted by well-helmed yet ridiculous action sequences courtesy of Ang Lee and some decent performances from the principle cast. The de-aging effects work well with the exception of slower daylight scenes; I found these better than most previous uses of the technology. If it was more self-aware of its goofiness, I think it could have been a winner.

some good performances despite the turgid script. .watch for the love of the cast and to see Lee's aggressive visual experiment. Avoid it if you're looking for anything else.

24fps version. Great lighting. Amazing action sequences but stupid tactics and terrible script/feelings. Young Will Smith was an amazing technological feat. MEW was portrayed well and strong in her own right. Would have liked to see funnier banter. Movie went downhill once they teamed up in the small town, though it picked up again from bulletproof (but stupid) clone. Again, Clone Wars was a stupid idea. Fav scene: motorcycle chase with a freaking beating taken by older Will Smith at the end.

Will Smith is an undeniable movie star, but this script is too late-80's, and a little beneath him. Though it wouldn't work without him.

Simply put, Gemini Man isn't very good. A lot of the action sequences resemble the rubbery texture of video games without any on the engagement. The script is mediocre, attempting pathos but missing the mark more often than not. There are a few good moments (the Budapest catacomb scene before the fight being one of them) but not enough to save the film.

consider the epilogue, in which the newfound autonomy of jr. coincides with him looking more artificial. owen initially seems a directorial stand-in, chucking bazillions at a smith deepfake without the age and vulnerability, but lee posits that perhaps this tech has the capacity to enhance as well as erase humanity. after all, any modern human (especially the cinephilic variety) is a copy too, forged from the detritus of popular culture (cornball 90s screenplays like this one included).

Watched this on 4k HFR which was both fascinating and irritating visually, both of which served as a distraction to the feature itself. Probably no harm as the movie seemed a mostly predictable action movie with admittedly impressive de-aging that brought the Fresh Prince back to life.

I'm quite sure I would've loved it on the big screen, but unfortunately I've seen it at home. Either way a weird, sometimes off, sometimes brilliant actioner that ends up making a curious commentary on the extinction of movie stars. Well-paced, clean action shot in long takes looks really awesome, despite how clumsy the script runs -- its dramatic tone is really surprising, though.

Winstead is way more cool than either of the Smiths. Undeniably, this is bad on many levels (the dialogue being particularly lousy), but it's moderately entertaining in its own stupid way. It's bizarre that Ang Lee made this one, though, huh?

Deathly dull. Too much focus on the (frankly underwhelming) frame rate and de-aging technology, means it's stuck with paint-by-numbers plot and characterization. Struggles to engage beyond showing off its bafflingly bland visuals.

The trailer ruined the concept before the script had the chance. Poorly written and uninspired. While there is some unique and thrilling action cinematography, an inconsistent youngface and unconvincing CG physics dilute most of the thrills with winces.

With expectations super low, it was still average at best. It has a good concept and the cast is great, but the story is very much convoluted, and it just doesn't look good (it has a lot to do with the way it was filmed). The de-ageing thing wasn't as distracting as I thought.

There were some exciting moments in this movie and the plot was interesting but the creepiness of it boiled over a few too many times. Winstead was a good pairing for Smith. She was the brightest part of the film. The CG version of Will Smith, while cool, wasn't really ready for prime time. There were too many moments where it just looked fake and goofy. It was easy to see the seems especially the final scene where the lighting was brighter. I don't think I'd watch it again but it wasn't bad.

Well, it is not that bad but you would expect more than Ang Lee. It is more like a technology demo, but the problem is that the technology is not that ready yet. Also, when you name your movie "Gemini Man" you do not need the disclosure part; you know we are not that stupid! There is a good dynamic between Winstead and Smith (and Smith is really ageless by the way, it is scary) and the car chase scenes have a bit overblown but nevertheless beautiful choreography, but that's more or less it.

It's kind of confusing that they focused so much on the action part of the movie while having such a scifi element in it. It didn't help that old Will Smith's long pining looks to his crying clone made you wonder if he was either about to kiss him or breastfeed him. Some action scenes were nice at least, like the fight with a bike. The CGI is uncanny.

Gemini Man has nothing interesting. Well, there was a young Will Smith and an adult Will Smith. And they did not get anything interesting even out of that. There were some exploding action. The plot wise it was totally empty. Do not forgot that Multiplicity was done in 1996. You need for the good story more than gimmick effects. I saw this in the IMAX theater.

So despite it being a decade since Cameron brought it back this is actually the first time I’ve seen a movie in 3D, largely due to eye issues. Either the effect is more subtle than I expected or my eyes just make it look 2D through the glasses instead of all line-y. The 120fps I actually liked quite a bit - wouldn’t work for most movies, but I’d watch more action stuff in that frame rate. The movie itself? Oh, it sucks ass, but Mary Elizabeth Winstead is in it and I like her a lot.

This was fine but unspectacular. Far from the worst thing on film this year -- and in a world where Replicas exists, not even the worst movie about cloning to come out this year -- but very much a throwback to a time when action movies just needed to have the good guy win at the end. Ang Lee is a great director but doesn't exactly haul this thing up Quality Mountain. But I'm also a Mary Elizabeth Winstead mark, so any time she's on screen, I am there for it. cagedwisdom nails it in his review.

Two men of different generations learn that blood is thicker than water, the younger of the two also learning that higher education is a worthy goal, while a single woman learns to overcome career difficulties. There is also a slightly clownish Asian man, presumably included for financing purposes. Almost all aspects are less than stellar, yet the harsh treatment it seems to have received also seems a bit unfair.

It feels like it was supposed to be a JCVD vehicle in the late '90s, but was made over 20 years later by Ang Lee in his "I have so many toys now" phase. It's not great - and one late film twist is so dumb that I laughed out loud for a good minute - but it is oddly inventive and entertaining.

Disclaimer: I don't see the difference in higher or lower framerates in movies. While the movie is pretty average action movie fair, the action sequences are conducted pretty well and enjoyable. The technological advancements are not always perfect (Junior looks a lot like a mix between Gollum and CGI Tarkin from time to time) but impressive when done well. It's an okay movie.

İnsan kendi kendini öldürür mü? Ang Lee, bize bu sorunun cevabını vermiş. Kendi de eğlenmek istemiş. Will Smith usta bir tetikçi. Yanlış kişiyi ölünce de, kopyası tarafından öldürülmesi istenir. I'm not going to utterly crap on this film, since I feel like I did enjoy certain elements of the film and that it did exactly what it set out to do. That being said, the script is laughably repetitive and some of those fight scenes feel unnatural. Thank god I didn't see it in 120fps. I think I'd rather die
