Why am I paying for fifty-year-old porn in 2019? This does set itself up as a kind of reflection on the times, and in particular on the differences and relationships between the rigidity of left-wing extremism and the emptiness of sexual "liberation" as two symptomatic responses to the tyranny of modern conventionality, and does play around with cinematic techniques, but if this is Japanese "new wave" cinema, it still seems miles away from the "nouvelle vague". But not a total failure either.
