Interesting idea, the movie was unfortunately not as great as the idea. The ending especially was unnecessary, and it would have served the movie a lot better, if more things were left unexplained.

This is a good thriller. Carla Gugino is great in this film. The film only works because of Gugino'S great performance. Bruce Greenwood is also very good in this movie. Overall I would recommend this film.

Some classic Stephen King writing here, with a person stuck in a situation where they can only help themselves. Similar to Misery in that respect. While Gugino is no Kathy Bates, she carries the film on her back. That "hand" scene will soon not be forgotten.

The inner monologues of the book were brought to the screen in clever fashion and the performance of the two leads was well done. The movie was also nicely creepy at times and features one of the most disturbing scenes in recent movie history.

The movie left me with mixed feelings. It started off great, immediately to the point and continued with a great expedition through the psyche of a person carrying a great trauma. However, it felt prolonged and the ending seemed like from a different movie. For me, the horror part was absent, only a sprinkle of a gruesome detail. Overall, the movie is a great inner dialogue of a troubled mind, but carries no value otherwise. Don't get me wrong though, the inner dialogue is definitely worthwhile.

While there are some execution issues with the film's conclusion, they are not detrimental enough to derail what comes before. Carla Gugino is terrifically entertaining with her portrayal of a woman torn between succumbing to her forsaken nature and deciding to be courageous. The film starts in one direction and, refreshingly, ends up in a totally different one.

SPLRS. Through male characters a spectrum of horror is revealed, somewhat undermined by the conclusion. The 'twist' at the end isn't the problem, but the late sprint to a very Hollywood-ish happy ending is, and also her discovery of empowerment partly through being assertive in the face of someone Ed Gein-ish who seems intellectually deficient and literally in a courtroom on a way to prison or perhaps death. (By contrast husband gets an imagined seemingly friendly goodbye wave for some reason.)

An unfortunately timely story about a woman who's been a victim to sexual predators, kept quiet about it, and is now forced to confront her entire history. The metaphoric and poetic aspirations of this appropriately creepy chamber piece are surprising, and the fight to reclaim one's life as touching (and bloody) as in 127 Hours.

We're trapped in one room with Carla Gugino for 90 minutes and it works, it actually works. Though it wasn't particularly scary, I was kept entertained throughout watching Jessie spiral downwards and come to one realization after the other. What keeps this from being decent, though, is that ending. It all feels unnecessary, tacked on.

It suffers the usual king deficiencies, neat idea dragged all over the place and finished horribly. Still, beyond doubt the best adaptation in a while. Which means it's not promoting diarrhea. Plus, that "handcuff-scene" really made me wince in disgust, a task not easily accomplished. Quintessence: if you have a wife like carla gugino and need viagra to get it up, you deserve to die in agony and get eaten by a stray dog. Now look at the solar eclipse, honey! Keep looking at the solar eclipse!!!

The ending, despite faithtul to the novel -- not that it really matters, even when it is a Stephen King adaptation -- clearly misses the point, but Flanagan does a job converting a hard-to-adapt book in a nice survival thriller. All the talking and emotional cathartic segments seem boring, but the first hour pays off with beautiful compositions. The degloving scene must be the most gruesome gore moment in some time even to horror fans.

I think this movie is one of the greatest King’s adaptation in this century. Pure thriller, great actors and lot’s of chill moments. Brutal, natural and oneiric scenes are one of the strongest part of this Netflix’s production.

Gugino put this on her back, which was always going to be the necessity for any actress taking on the role. She handled it wonderfully. I actually love the book and think this is a good adaptation of it; it's still better as a book but I was into this and once you get past the gimmicky nature in which Gerald is in the movie then it's an effective drama. Unlike many others, I actually think the twist at the end makes it creepy and puts a good spin on what we've already seen.

The same pros and cons as the King novel, one of his least-read, that it's based on. The expansion of Gerald's role via a stagey gimmick, and the marvelously gross climactic moment, are the highlights. The style is plain and clean, with occasional melodramatic or hallucinatory gestures. The biggest problems here are a corny and offensive epilogue, and that the initial plot hook in itself is more interesting than any conceivable way things could shake out for our protagonist.

It's a little staggering how inconsistent this movie can be. It has an amazing setup and it goes to some seriously intense, thoughtful places in depicting trauma/abuse. Unfortunately, the ending/epilogue kind of undercuts the complicated emotional landscape of the rest of the movie. It feels way too easy. I would still recommend the hell out of this movie, but it would be basically perfect if it ended 15 minutes earlier.

I was pleasantly surprised by this. It already ranks in the top four of five Stephen King adaptations thanks to the strong performances from the leads and a quite clever way of portraying the spiral into delirium.

Always thought this was unfilmable, but Flanagan handles the somewhat, um, supine plot very nicely even if it could have been left just a little more room to let the horror really sink in. The ending, sadly, is a mess, but up until then it's one of the better King adaptations I've seen in a good while.
