The youtube preview on the films page is a frozen image of a naked Michael Caine holding a shotgun with an old woman in the background. So, yes, I loved this movie.

Michael Caine is one stone cold motherfucker in this. His character and his performance alone are reason enough to see the film. Which is not to say that the rest of the film isn't good, because it is. I couldn't get into it in a big way, though. Most movies about crime are like water off a duck's back for me lately. I enjoy them while I'm watching them, but few of them linger in my mind after they're finished.

Caine is fantastic as a brutal and pitiless gangster out to solve his brother's murder. Sleek, stylish, and gritty - the film holds up pretty well, at least compared to the goofier "Italian Job"

Grim, gritty, brutal, sleazy and peopled with an assortment of deeply unpleasant characters. It doesn't show the city where I live in a particularly positive light either. But it's good, driven by a performance by Caine at his very best, and tidy direction by Hodges, Not an easy film to get into, but worth sticking with.

Caine is utterly badass as the criminal scumbag who ruthlessly disposes of other criminal scumbags. Unfortunately, apart from a few interesting scenes and good (haunting) use of audio, there is not thát much to write home about. Caine's search for answers takes a while to get going and I wasn't terribly interested in knowing which gangster told what other gangster to do something to a different gangster.

Let it never be said that 1970s Michael Caine is not badass.

Not interesting, eventful, and hardly even watchable. It has a good premise, a couple pieces here and there are ok, but the vast majority of this movie is dull. I don't understand how this movie has received so much acclaim.

What I like about this film is the no nonsense dialogue, the raymond chandler crime story-like narrative and Michael Caine. What I didn't like was that the must expected "she was only 16 old" line that they repeat endlessly in the The Trip isn't from this film. (EDIT) Apparently the line from The Trip is made up. Such a disappointment.

When one looks at the women that are sexualized in this film, it suddenly dawns why James Bond was so obsessed with foreign beauties.

As mean as the proverbial junkyard dog and as moody, uncompromising and cool as Michael Caine's vengeance-driven character. Hodges directs this vicious British crime drama with an assurance that still holds up today, and with Caine on top form too, it was guaranteed that Get Carter would go down as one of the best examples of its genre.

Caine is great and it's a nicely plotted crime thriller, but there's nothing all that sexy about it (except Britt Eklund) so while I enjoyed it, I hardly found it enthralling. Still, it's fun watching every single motherfucker in the movie getting owned, often cruelly.

I felt like my dad watching this. "Oh, who is he again? I'll check Wikipedia to see why he's important." Gotta love Michael Caine taking off his shirt to reveal the most average-looking man. You don't get that anymore.

Nicely done in its building of tension through the film. Hodges also seems confident with his camera--lots of still shots, refusing to move the camera just because, but rather out of need. This stillness of the frame creates this tension, alongside Caine's relative quiet and calm. Thematically, the film seems to be a meditation on reaping and sowing, on how violence begets violence. I am troubled by the casual mix of sex and violence...endemic to early 70s filmmaking in reaction to Hayes code.

Mike Hodges' 1971 masterpiece is so affecting simply because of two things: gritty direction and Caine spitting fire.

A psychotic My Cocaine plays an anti-hero with no likable qualities in a film without any likable side characters. Some silly one-liners with naivety typical for the era, which are kind of funny ("Cause I know you wear purple underwear!"), but also kind of drop the film down with their serious and grim delivery. The problem I have with the film is that I am simply not a fan of the gangster genre - the morale always seems the same: the anti-hero eats it, his sins catch up with him type of a gig.

Love me some gritty 70's Caine. Pacing is not for everyone, but the payoff was definitely worth the wait for me.

Chandleresque (ie confusing) crime drama with a dark streak of nihilism. Caine rampages around the industrial landscapes of NE England, terrorising the local lowlifes and generally being a cruel shit. The most effective parts come in the first half hour, when Caine actually shows some humanity.

Great if only because of Micheal Caine's portrayal of a total bastard. There are no good guys in this film, Carter's efforts are anything but likable and I suppose that was the point. It's to the credit of his characterization that I was effectively cheering in the end. Otherwise, the film is difficult to get into and probably wouldn't be worth a re-watch.

I wasn't too impressed with this - while it is nihilistic, nasty and grim, much of it feels like lost potential. It starts off great, and the ending is good too, but the middle third of the film just drags - Michael Caine really holds the film together with his performance but it feels as if we barely get to know anyone, especially not him. You can see the influence it had on many films but for me it's maybe too detached for me to really get into it.

Not my all-time favorite british gangster flick, but it's still a must-see classic! Get Carter doesn't follow the usual concepts of good and evil, they are many shades of grey and debauchery in this dreary slum. Even the hero of the movie is a brutal son of a bitch. Goddamn was Caine sexy back then though, in a horrible misogynistic bastard kind of way. Horrible morals, great film...

I'm mixed on this. While it does have some great scenes, I was just bored for a large part of this. Spoilers: I loved how the girl drowns in the trunk of the car, Caine shows no remorse, and it is never mentioned.
