Interesting story but it doesn't live up to its full potential because of less than perfect direction. Fine cast all around, acting is decent too. From technical side nothing sticks out in neither in good, nor in bad way. Meta-humor is well done, but I am not a big fan of it. Movie geekery in it seems a bit artificial. Nothing I would like to see again, but had a decent time this once.

Eh, it was OK, but I probably only liked it because it was about the movie industry. The sequel (about the music industry) is fucking painful.

I think the real joy here is that Elmore Leonard's book, especially the dialogue, is almost completely intact. Travolta apparently insisted on that. The initial screenplay had substituted standard Hollywood screenplay dialogue and he insisted that the book's dialogue be put back. He couldn't have been more right. This film is just a joy to listen to.

As a kid, this was one of three movies that I still remember that I labelled 'boring' (the other two being Apollo 13 and Mr. Holland's Opus). Watching this now, it never really goes beyond being pleasant.

I generally don't like "Hollywood" movies. I find the idea of movies about the movie industry tend to be up their own asses and they generally turn me off. Get Shorty on the other hand didn't fall into that trap. I loved the character of Chili Palmer. The idea of a wise guy that loves movies so much that he wants to uproot and chase after the dream of making his own movies is unique. The twists and turns of the plot help make the movie a lot of fun. I'll always see a movie with Delroy Lindo.

Tetikçi Chili Palmer, önce Las Vegas, sonra L.A. gider.

Brilliantly capitalising on the success of Pulp Fiction, Travolta quickly returned to playing another charming wisecracking career criminal who exudes effortless cool. He is well supported by a wonderful cast of talented Hollywood actors, with Devito (as a pretentious actor) and Hackman (as a dodgy producer) standing out especially, and the dialogue is full of witty barbs and stings. Sonnenfeld's direction, however, is merely serviceable and the Hollywood satire is more smug than critical.

I'm a sucker for any movie about movies, but the meta-commentary here was OK at best and the gangster aspects just weren't interesting at all. I feel like this would have been great as a complete satirical farce, but instead it's too grounded in reality to generate any interest.

One of the better Elmore Leonard adaptations thanks to the strong cast including an effortlessly cool Travolta and a hilarious Hackman and Farina. The meta-commentary on Hollywood is clever but doesn't get in the way of an enjoyable little film.

A film that's all about the film industry congratulating itself on how quirky and interesting it is when it's really not. An entire film based around this world is just self indulgent nonsense. Travolta was considered hot because he just got off the whirlwind high that was Pulp Fiction and in this he plays another mafia type character. Instead of the depth that was in Pulp Fiction we get a wisecracking comedy cool guy that's in fact rather dull. The dialog is also trendy and superficial pap.

The perfect crime comedy. Wry and deadpan, it's just a bunch of people talking but it's all hilarious and propulsive. You've also got some of the best comedic performances ever in this one - Danny DeVito as an egotistical movie star, Gene Hackman as a washed-up producer and Dennis Farina as an airhead criminal. Plus, Travolta's as good as he is in Pulp Fiction. Throw in a John Lurie score and some self-referential humor and you've got yourself a gem.

This feels like it should be way better than it is. Casting seems a bit off. Hackman doesn't seem to fit the part here--I can't buy his lack of confidence. And too much water has flown under the bridge for Travolta to be compelling. And the direction is pretty bland--give this script to Soderbergh and I bet he injects some magic into it.

Get Shorty ain't bad. Its greatest asset is the lovely screenplay and fully diverse characters, but it's done so playfully it's hard to appreciate the more dramatic moments. The comedy isn't that great -- the best moment coming from a particularly inspired camera angle on a gun pointing at a character's crotch -- but it drifts along breezily. It's a decent way to kill time.
