Builds up all it's strength only through dialogue and it does it perfectly. Maybe one of the best court films ever made with an absurd case in an almost grotesque appearing society. I feel like I'm living on another planet after seeing this.

Too many setups. Spare a thought for the gaffers and grips.

Fulfills the camp-potential hidden in rabbi's beards.

a kind of reverse COURT where we're imprisoned inside the loud chaos of the court sessions rather than quietly breathing in their contextual margins--just as effective if not moreso, though it's closer to A SEPARATION and is forced to bear that (never flattering) comparison. the intentions of movies like this are transparent which ought to limit their appeal, but its humanity is so nuanced and authentic it's impossible not to care about this situation and the systemic failures underpinning it.

I walked out of the theater my first time watching Gett, but it wasn't the film's fault. Once I got to finish it at home, I realized how agonizing the slow gett process was to Vivian, and how the film's real power is in its ability to put us in her shoes for just a little while.

A big step up from the Elkabetz siblings' previous films, Gett re-focuses on the character of Viviane Amsalem, whose unhappy marriage was the subject of the trilogy's opener. Gett is uneven, marred by some redundancy and clumsy plot points, but Viviane is highly sympathetic in her battle against the male chauvinism of a religious institution, and there are many strong, tense and even amusing moments. Noy's performance as her lawyer, while not terrible, is a stain on an otherwise awesome cast.

I'm fond of this for its desire for justice in relations between men and women. But I am also fond of it for offering an excellent example of the high stakes involved in interpreting and seeking to live according to ancient texts. I think one could make the same film from the lead judge's perspective and end up in a similar place with his character. Elkabetz is vibrant and fierce here, and the emphasis on faces helps to emphasize the human element of this drama.
