Ghoulies IV

Ghoulies 4 does the impossible: I’m disappointed by little people in costumes.

After the surprise gem that was "Ghoulies III: Ghoulies Go to College"(1991), I was disappointed when I was introduced to Jim Wynorski's new version of the "Ghoulies". From the original, Peter Liapis returns as "Jonathan Graves", however the movie creates some kind of mutated version of the "Ghoulies" with the original's other Satanic little people helpers to be sidekicks in his sexy Satanic messy break-up story. Not for lack of trying, this horror/cop-comedy B-movie was a disappointing bore.

I can't believe I watched the whole thing!

This has many hallmarks of a low-budget 90's horror sequel, including butchering of the original's lore & title characters, plus the introduction of a bunch of wildly stupid elements like a Satanic love triangle. This is better than most Wynorski movies I've seen, but that's not saying much of anything. Still, the attempt to make a genuine followup 10 years after the first film is appreciated, & Peter Liapis is solid. It isn't all that good, but it's better than it could've been. Watchable.
