A story full of selfish, lying pricks in very tense predicaments. The movie is driven by the dialogue, which is intelligent enough to provide weight, yet smooth and funny enough to entertain. The actors themselves - particularly Pacino, Lemmon, and Baldwin - boost these elements of the script to believable and sympathetic levels.

A surprisingly entertaining and involving stage adaptation, featuring excellent performances from the top-quality cast. It works as a film, yet still retains the intimacy of a stage play - much of this is down to the fuckin' tremendous script and its delivery. Lemmon absolutely nails it. Great sweary fun. PS it's about a lot more than just swearing, although the swearing is first class.

Ridiculously ragged, muscular dialogue gives all the actors so much to chew on that it's easy to overlook the fact that it's basically just a filmed play. Spacey, Harris, Arkin, and Pacino all shine (even Pacino's "Pacino" acting style works here), but Baldwin and Lemmon in particular bring out the big motherfuckin' acting guns. This movie reeks of much testosterone that your balls will grow three sizes while watching it.

Starring 'Fucking' Al Pacino as Al 'fucking' Pacino, Ed Harris as a red-faced guy, Jack Lemmon as that 'past-his-prime will-do-anything-for-one-last-deal' salesman from the Simpsons, and not a single woman except the coat lady in the Chinese restaurant.

Normally I could put up with contemptible characters barking out profane dialogue for an hour and a half. In fact, most times I'd probably enjoy it. Surely I was sitting through this joyless slog through the underbelly of the real estate business for some kind of shocking revelation or lucid insight into the character of men. Turns out the big reveal is that salesmen are underhanded, scheming a-holes. Who knew? Please stop comparing this lazily filmed play to the FAR superior "12 Angry Men".

Much like any stage-to-screen adaptation, it takes a while for its morality and thematic complexities to reveal themselves to the audience, ultimately reaching a point where I found it impossible to look away. Watching this today, Mamet's amazing script seems out of this world, chock full of verbal sparring matches that provide each cast member with a moment to shine. Baldwin, despite showing up in only one scene, and Lemmon, however, shine brightest. What a kickass film.

A very theatrical movie, based on the Mamet play, that focuses on the stellar performances over flashy direction or cinematography. The cast are all fantastic, letting the foul-mouthed dialogue guide their performances into great pieces of work. Although obviously it's Pacino, Baldwin, Lemmon, Arkin et al on screen you forget they're actors and become enveloped in this scathing look at modern capitalist society. Great lighting and use of color too. Death of a fucking salesman indeed.

I can't imagine seeing a trailer or hearing the plot and rushing to see this, but what lies beneath the facade of a potentially flacid movie about 'real estate agents' is a tense and brilliantly written morality play that has legendary actors firing at all cylinders.

My god, what amazing performances. There's not one bad one in the whole bunch, and Lemmon and Baldwin knock it out of the park. Because of that it's so fun to watch these characters try to screw each other over that it just flies along and it's done before you know it. The climactic argument is the true highlight.

Swearing is for closers. Mamet's overrated, you know damn well he is, stop pretending. I do love me some filthy language though, and every theater dork's favorite Republican certainly does deliver on that front. We've got swears, we've got cusses, we've got curses, slurs, oaths, dozens, shut-ups and-- Grandma Lily's favorite --put-downs. All in one convenient DVD, for one low low price of [I don't know. I borrowed it from the local public library, so it was free] what a bargain!

It loses some points due to the rather conservative nature of the stage to screen adaptation. The music is almost non existent, there isn't a photographed imaged that could be screen capped, and the editing between the conversations comes across as an episode of Dragnet. And don't get me started on the plot hole of intentionally sending out a salesman with crappy leads. Still, there's fun in watching top notch stage actors do a fill play full of quotable dialogue brimming with subtext.

"Glengarry Glen Ross" feels like it should have remained a stage-play. It's transition on-screen does nothing for the story-telling, which takes place in about two locations. However, the level of depth in each character is what makes the film memorable. The willingness to stab each other in the back, the willingness to lie to people's faces in order to make a sale, and to acquire some very useful leads, is astounding in itself.

I think half the fun of this movie is watching guys swear at each other for 100 minutes. Of course, there's much more to the dialogue than profanity, and Mamet's words are brilliant. The other half of the fun is Jack Lemmon, who brings slimy desperation to new heights. The other actors are all great too, but Lemmon steals the show.

An employer utilizes brutal tactics against a group of real estate salesman and it greatly amplifies the office politics and exposes the many dark undertones of their relationships. Battle lines get drawn and redrawn as they each become increasingly more desperate to win and keep their jobs. Plots are revealed and rivalries surface in the tense conditions and each character jockeys for power in thier own way. A must see movie for any salesman.

"Glengarry Glen Ross" is deliriously enjoyable -probably the most exciting, rousing film you will ever see about sales. Mamet's wickedly profane, relentlessly talky script reverberates with wit, pathos and dark cynicism. The cast is one of the most impressive and talented ensamples ever -everyone is excellent, but Harris and Pacino stand out and Lemmon completely steals the show in a performance equally hilarious and gripping. It's an exhilarating, cocksure, brilliant motion picture.

One of the best all around acted movies I've ever seen. Literally each and every role is acted to perfection. The dialogue is top notch giving this amazing ensemble cast proper material to work with. The only let down to this movie is the plot. Mamet is a great playwright but not the best at writing for the silver screen. The way the film progressed would have better suited a TV show. Had the screenplay been a bit more expansive this would have been an instant classic.

A staggering actor's showcase; Harris is terrific as an egotistical blow-hard, Arkin superb in a portrait of put-upon indecisiveness, and weaselly Spacey is equally fine. The final acting battle is fought between Baldwin, whose single scene electrifies the film, Pacino's extraordinary double-talk, and (the winner) Lemmon in an extraordinary, career-best portrait of broken down, pathetic desparation. Mamet's screenplay successfully opens up his play, ably assisted by Foley's direction.

Someone must have given me a lead that I should watch this movie. Do you know what I do with good leads? I close them. Glengarry Glen Ross is an actor's movie with a bunch of the juggernauts of the last 50 years standing around screaming at each other, which makes it at least sort of worthy based on that. It mostly just made me glad for the internet, where the scheming businessman has taken on a different form that I am more accustomed to.

All of this, in less capable mouths, might have become gaggingly pretentious, and is still sufficiently pretentious as is. Foley has attempted to heat up the action -- which could flatteringly be spoken of in terms of a caper, a detective investigation, and a surprise-twist ending -- with Expressionistic color and lighting, but he hasn't liberated it from the stage or from staginess.

This film has a lot to say about the current state of our society, and most of it is the truth and for that it must be commended. But I'll let you in on a little secret. The key to its success on the screen, is the excess profanity and sharp dialogue. It's honest and straight down the line and doesn't pretend to be anything that it is not. This is an actor's movie, with a sparkling script and nothing in the way of action or CGI to hide that. Everyone in this movie shines, from Jack Lemmon's incredible performance as Shelly to Baldwin's memorable cameo.
